Alright, now that she's an Academy Award winner, I think it's high time we get her back on Broadway to open a show that could land her a Tony.

Are there any roles that come to mind that she's just got to play? Of course, something original with her in it would be quite thrilling, too...

If only she had opened the recent Cabaret revival. She would have had a shot at the tony.

I might get a lot of hate for this, but I think she would nail Lucille in parade. She may have a hard time hitting those notes, but with the proper training she would be successful. And perhaps the right name appeal for a revival.

I'd love to see her as Miss. Honey in Matilda, she just seems to have the innocent charm for that role.

She's been pretty adamant that Sally in CABARET is really the only pre-existing musical role she feels she can play. That being said, I'd love to see her in a play.

I'd love to see her in Pygmalion. She could be a great Eliza.

First thing that came to mind was Christine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

She'd make a great Dot.  Probably not onstage, but she'd be wondeful on film.

I could see her making a fantastic Desiree in the distant future.

I still think that Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall should adapt Cabaret for the screen with her and Alan Cumming.  Throw in Meryl Streep as Schneider and it'd be quite a hit.

I love her, think she's very talented and deserved her Oscar, but she is very much not a singer. All the training in the world wouldn't make her able to sing something like Lucille or Dot, even if her acting would be fine. I would very much like to see her in a play, though.

She might be slightly too young for it, but I would be really interested to see her Harper in an Angels in America revival.

I agree, she would be a very interesting Dot, but there's no way she could sing that score 8x a week. She and Jake would be nicely paired in a film version,  especially since there's been interest in a film in recent years.

I'm sure that Scott Rudin is already working on a revival of BAREFOOT IN THE PARK with Emma Stone and someone like Ryan Gosling/Channing Tatum/Andrew Garfield/Chris Evans. Hopefully a MUCH better production than the last revival with Patrick Wilson and Amanda Peet that managed to be both laugh-free and charm-free.

I agree 100%.  She'd be great with Jake on film, but it would really be a stretch for her to sing it on Broadway.

Genuinely curious- why the distinction between film and stage when it comes to vocals? She can't do Sunday because she doesn't have the range for it. Even on her La La Land songs, which must have been sweetened in the studio, her upper range is clearly her weakest part. They'd have to drastically change the score to suit her, even in a film.

The role of Dot is a surprisingly easy part to sing.  I shouldn't say that it's "easy", since the rhythms are very hard, but the actual vocal part isn't all that complex.  With training, she could sing it on film without much trouble.  Singing on film is very different from singing onstage.  You need to sing the role with sincerity as opposed to singing it in a way that will reach the back row.  It's a more reserved style.  I'm not quite so sure that there was all that much vocal sweetening in La La Land.  I saw her in Cabaret and her vocals were quite strong (even in her upper range) and her acting was sensational.  She's become my favorite Sally.  Also she has just the right kind of voice for Dot.  Her voice wouldn't translate that well for Lucille in Parade, however.

I much rather have sweetened vocals than dubbing like in the old days. I'm sure she could at least sound better than HBC in the Sweeney film. Vocally, Emma has musicality, though not the strongest range.

There's also the inherent difference between recording/performing a score in a movie and performing a score eight times a week for months. There are lots of singers who would tackle a score in a film or studio recording but never sign up for a long run.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I don't think it's a role she HAS to do but if she could manage the dancing, I think she could probably handle Sweet Charity. She's naturally very charming and likable and that fits Charity. The singing also shouldn't be too much of a stretch. I vaguely remember her being fine with the dancing in Cabaret but then she didn't have to do as much of it as she'd have in Sweet Charity so that might be an issue.

She probably wouldn't want to do it at this stage in her career but there are probably some supporting roles she could do as well.

They may have still altered the vocals, but it is worth noting that Emma Stone sang "Audition" live in LA LA LAND.
