Starobin's contributuion to Sunday

After replaying the video of Jake's masterful rendition of Finishing the Hat, I found myself captured by Sondheim's whirlpool of a recurring theme and decided to immerse myself in the videos of the original production and the one at Theatre du Chatelet (which I was able to see in person). 

I've found that this musical, more than others can summon immediate tears. Of course primary credit goes to the master, Stephen Sondheim. However, I've wondered about Michael Starobin's orchestration. It's so lush and somehow seems more closely bound to the work than others. 

I am in awe of Jonathan Tunick's orchestrations for most of Sondheim's canon but wonder if those with more expertise can weigh in on Starobin's unique contributions to the orchestration.

In any event, I love being captured by the shimmering vortex of this creation.
