Ouch. It's not wicked's fault Fun Home couldn't sustain an audience indefinitely. Few shows can.

I was sorry to see it close. It was a beautiful show -- courageous, innovative, and touching. Since seeing it, I have listened to the original cast recording dozens of times. I hope the tour is doing well. Glad to hear from another fan.

What do you have against BC? They literally did nothing to you. They are entitled to their opinions and views just as much as anyone else. What is your problem?

I second After Eight in this case.  It was a dreary bore to me and the three other people I saw this with.  And I am not homophobic, tone deaf, etc.  I just didn't like it, and I could not recommend this to anyone who asked.  I knew they wouldn't like it.  'I don't need to drive into Manhattan, pay $50 to park, pay for dinner, and pay $300 for 2 tickets...just to be depressed.'

We have ACTUAL TROLLS on this site posting borderline offensive things on the daily and you're sooooo bothered by one posters occasional off-topic posts whereas otherwise he usually has actual contributions to the conversations of these boards? Get a life.

It was close to an actual miracle that Fun Home made it to Broadway. Count me among those who never thought commercial producers would go for a show with this subject matter and approach. That it playes 600 times on Broadway and was the only new musical of its season to turn a profit is even closer to a miracle. Not every show needs to be Phantom. It had a great run and closer before it became any less than itself.

Broadway Concierge is significantly more irritating than most of the trolls, who at least provide a bit of entertainment. The Concierge holds frightening, scary views, which he refuses to defend or explain when confronted because he's a petulant child who doesn't know better. He's a cancer on the board.

Wow. I strongly disagree. To each his own, although I find it disgusting and irritating of YOU that you can't look past that and accept him for the human he is.

"We are all one", no? "We must all stand together". Or at least that's what everyone kept saying before Trump won.

LOL. Imagine my surprise to open this thread to hopefully read interesting conversation... and then to see it's devolved to an assault on my username.

There's a million ways I could go with this to make it more about me, but I'm not going to—because Jiarooney asked a question, and his/her thread doesn't deserve to be taken down the rabbit hole. If you have a problem with me, inbox me. If you think my personal views are actually frightening...I mean, again, message me, but you might want to seek help because I wouldn't consider myself to be an extremist.

I'll end by saying that people are probably unhappy with their lives if they spend their time discussing yours.

Edit: Thanks, Greased, for always being a voice of reason on here Why did 'Fun Home' Close

i don't think anyone needs to accept ignorance and bigotry.

BrodwayConcierge,  YOU have openly supported and sympathized with people set to make OUR lives worse. That you're unhappy so you hate me excuse is just denial and ambivalence of your own actions.

The topic of this thread is asinine, anyway. Fun Home closed the same reason every show closes: it wasn't selling enough tickets. It was never a show that was ever going to have mass appeal and run fof a decade.

Fun Home had a great run, something to be joyfully proud of. And it must be good because After Eight hates it. After Eight, you see, is a special kind of troll, a posturing troll, who rails against any show that is not vapid. Fun Home was not vapid.

A lot of the most beautiful, well-written shows don't last very long. I'm not saying I wouldn't have loved another year or twenty added to its run, but I can't help but be proud that a small, non-commercial, thought-provoking show with a lesbian protagonist still played for nearly 600 performances. That's no small feat.

I loved the show, it was the highlight of my last NYC trip, and the theme of  an evolving relationship between a gay child and parents resonated with me. The recording remains in my at work music rotation. The set design with rising and falling pieces dazzled me. In fact, I am skipping the San Francisco tour stop next month because I feel I'd be bummed with the new design for a proscenium stage. (True, FH's initial incarnation was a proscenium.)

Clearly, FH was never going to run forever because it attracts a smaller audience. I love that it's touring and as Kate Schindlle has commented, its vitally important they play middle America and cities that need to hear this message.

if you haven't listened to the Broadway Backstory podcast on FH's creation, give a listen. Very interesting.

Also, false. I love Fun Home, and I consider it a masterpiece. But it is not a perfect show. One of the best things about art, in my opinion, is that it can always be improved, and keep getting better. No show is perfect, and the sky is the limit for a theatrical work, or any other work of art. If Leonardo da Vinci was still with us, I'll bet he would, every now and then, look at the Mona Lisa and find something he could tweak to make it better.
