She only has 2 Broadway credits, one of which was an ensemble role and the other which was a lead in a mega hit musical. I'd LOVE to see her back on Broadway but she seems to have found more success OFF Broadway, than on.
She's said many times that she finds more fulfillment in doing her own music than she does in musical theater. She did Funny Girl last summer, but that seems to be an exception as a "bucket list" role for her.
She said in a recent interview that she would be open to returning to Broadway, but that she wasn't necessarily seeking anything out.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Besides some Wicked fans, I don't think there's much of a demand to see her back on Broadway. She seems happy with her music. Someone like Karen Olivo returning would cause more of a stir with Broadway fans. Maybe she'll get to do Hamilton on Broadway soon?

Hmm. I would love to see Karen Olivo in a Beaches stage musical.

She's greatly respected Los Angeles- and I try to never pass up an opportunity to see her perform. She's a real talent, and I hope the right project finds its way to her.
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
She’ll soon start to age into really exciting roles for her. I would love to see her as Diana in Next To Normal and in 15 years she could really make a killer Mama Rose, imo. She’s a much better actress than people give her credit for.
