Hey everyone! So I am bringing a group of devoted theatre students age 10-13 to New York in February to see some shows... I am trying to determine on our last 2 shows between Natasha Pierre, Sunset BLVD and Holiday Inn... I understand the first two could be boring to younger kids but I am mostly curious on the appropriateness level for kids this young... Is there a lot of language? Any F words? How much Innuendo/sex etc. Thanks in advance for any information, advice or help!

I'd skip Sunset Blvd with kids unless a bunch of them are gay boys. It's themes are heady and adult and deal with a May/December romance, using someone for money and fame, suicide attempts, and murder. They'd be bored out of their minds unless they are gay boys. As a 12 year old I would have loved it.

Bettyboy - You are hilarious!
I don't think there is anything inappropriate in any of those shows for kids of that age, but I'm not sure any of these shows are going to be very interesting to them. They might find the immersive / more electric pop feel of Natasha Pierre the most interesting, but I doubt the story will be terribly appealing.

Haha. Yeah, I'm not too familiar with with any of the shows... So Sunset is probably appropriate for that age just maybe boring to them... unless they are gay... Ha. Any specific reason for that?

Great Comet is probably going to be most interesting to kids that age. Other shows to consider for that age range: Aladdin, Cats, Kinky Boots, Lion King, School of Rock, Waitress, and Wicked.

Thanks. We saw Aladdin on our last trip and Lion King is coming to our city... Also Wicked was just here... Cats is on our list but people don't seem too interested... We are seeing School of Rock and Hamilton and On Your Feet (fingers crossed it doesn't close) as our other shows...

Go with Natasha Pierre. The more I think about it, the more I think it will be a show they will probably remember vividly since its staging is so unusual.

Of the three shows you mentioned, and for your group, I would rank them 1)Great Comet 2)Holiday Inn 3)Sunset Blvd. I think they would really like Great Comet.
I'm not sure what your dates in February are, but Come From Away starts previews February 18th. That may be a nice choice, along with Great Comet.
If the kids were just a little older, Dear Evan Hansen would be perfect. I have kids the age of your group and I wouldn't take them to DEH ... maybe 13 or 14 at the youngest. But they would love it.
Someone mentioned Waitress, there are a couple pretty raunchy sex scenes, so I wouldn't recommend that for 10 year olds.

I agree with Natasha Pierre, too....from the list.
I would put Holiday Inn on the ho hum, list. It's "nice", but pretty uninteresting.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Pretty sure Holiday Inn is a limited run and would close before your trip. Current announced closing is January 15th, and it might extended again - but I kinda doubt it. On Your Feet will probably be open.
I'd recommend Come From Away as well. More so than Sunset Blvd - it's a great show, but it's quite adult in it's theme. I'm not thinking about moral aspects of subjecting kids 10-13 years of age to that material, but it honestly won't be interesting. The revival is supposedly not a big "spectacle" unlike The Great Comet to keep things interesting.
You should seriously consider Kinky Boots. It's hilarious and not preachy in its "lesson".

Yeah Natasha Pierre would probably be the most apprpriate, but like people mentioned, maybe not the most interesting for them. It's totally sung through too, just be aware. I think someone mentioned Kinky Boots, which I think might be a little better to take them to, it's really fun and has a great message! :)

It opens February 14th, so I'm not sure if that fits with your dates. I don't know the musical well so I have no idea if it is appropriate for 10-13 year olds and I don't know if you could find enough seats for a large group, But the kids would probably love it!
