Anyone been watching the new season?

I'm about 3 episodes in...and seems like a very different tone from the last season.

I am on episode 6. The tone is a bit different. They still manage to make me feel the need to know what happens with these main characters, despite not particularly liking them. I love Raquel and was happy to see that she began the season. I am also really liking Shea's story line with Josh on the road trip.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I liked the season, but didn't love it. I thought the second season was absolute perfection. I'll eventually watch the new season again from the beginning, but on first viewing, I merely liked it. Kathryn Hahn is absolutely magnetic.

The actress that played young Shelly in episode 8 was perfect.

Hats and kipehs off to Kathryn Hahn.  Has a Gentile actor ever been more believable as a Jew, let alone a rabbi?

Season 3 has been  my least favorite so far aside from some dynamic moments. The episodes seen to keep getting shorter and shorter. While the season wasn't my favorite, it sure makes me feel A LOT about the characters and their choices, so it is probably doing its job. :)

Raquel stole Season 2 and 3. Hahn should get some award love. Known for her comedy, she delves deep into pain. She's the best character on the show currently. She's one of the most resilient and least whiny, aside from Shelly at this point.

Maura has become joyless and entitled. I am sure the writers are testing us, but lord is she unlikeable. Like most of the Pfeffermans, unless it is about her, she taps out. They all seem to have little tolerance making room for others. They are all trapped in their respective ennui. While common, it gets old in a TV program.

I loved the revelation of Shelly's trauma, losing her voice and then finding her voice. Light can be pretty one note and grating on this show, but I enjoyed her finding her true voice and letting go of being a harpy. Nice to see Tom Lenk as her "a-ha moment" in the form of "the gay who came with the room."

I always love to see Michaela Watkins, as she usually only gets bit roles. I thought she was sensational this season and last. Such gravity. Loved seeing Gaby as young Rose. Very powerful episode. One of the best. Last seasons arc with Gittel came together so gorgeously.

I adore Jenny O'Hara and she also is just so good as Maura's sister, Brynna. She reminds me of Shirley MacLaine. Again, I think Maura is really hard on her. I have empathy for Brynna.

Shea got a great story arc, again showing Josh as horrendous and self-involved. Shea made me cry. She illuminated a huge struggle for the trans community-being seen a lovable person.

It's hard seeing Cherry Jones as rigid feminist. I'm over the character and hope Gaby Hoffman  (Alex)moves on soon. It's a painful relationship to watch.

Amy (Sarah) is the worst of the lot. She drives me nuts with her neurosis. She just needs to get over it.

I do think the show has gone a little off the rails making every character about sex and most of the conversations about sex, but I can live with it.
