So, my son turns 16 in a few days, and you know what's on his birthday list?  Nothing.   I'll be in the city tomorrow, so does anyone have any suggestions for unique shopping.  We already go to see many bway shows (which he loves) so that's not really an option and the only thing he's "into" is computer games.

Anyone have any suggestions for funky shopping...or even a unique gift idea?  Which can definitely include NYC activities.  (BOYS are so hard to shop for!)

TIA

Consider tickets to Accomplice, or maybe an escape room. Also, consider rewording your title. It could be taken a couple of ways.

Having no idea about your budget or his interests this is tricky - but I just got my nephew who turned 17 a "grown up" wallet, which he really appreciated. Especially if he is of driving age that could make a lot of sense since it's a great place for a new permit/license.

Madbrian, those both sound like great ideas.  Seems we have escaped rooms in Boston, too!

When I saw this title I thought, wow she's going from drama mama to sugar mama. Well, good for her! We all deserve a little fun in our lives!

This subject isn't nearly as fun, but I think Broadwaydevil gave a good suggestion. I remember when I got my first wallet. The initial reaction was a little disappointing, but as soon I realized what an amazing invention this was and I didn't have to stuff cash, ID, credit cards and five punch cards into my pockets each time I wanted to go out, well all I could think was why hadn't I received one sooner.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

If he has a PS4 already, the Playstation Virtual Reality Headset is the hot new thing in gaming accesories. It goes on sale 10/13. But you could give the promise of it instead of the actual thing for now.

Lol...if only my life were so interesting!

He actually bought himself a wallet last year!

I appreciate all the suggestions. So keep them coming!

A nice camera?

I know everybody has a camera on their phones, but perhaps a decent one that will encourage him to take something more than selfies - maybe even throw in a photography lesson or two. He's sixteen now but later in life he might really appreciate the photo documentation of this part of his life, people etc.

Is it a surprise gift?

Boys (of any age) would love whichever i-gadget works for your budget, or a gift card toward one of his choosing.

Does he live in Boston? You can't  go wrong with a gift card to Game Stop. My niece and nephew are into video games and buy a lot of there games there.

Assassins Syndicate!!! or Uncharted 4 Great Stories

A behind the scenes tour of Broadway? https://www.virtuoso.com/tours/15247945/sing-broadway-dance-broadway#.V95qNPB97IU

But seriously that could be anything . I know a trip to Disney World. I know you could do it for Christmas. I say this because rides are similar to games. And he could go for Christmas see fireworks. Do 'safari' It might be a good time to take him to V&A's too

But the best gift I ever got was a job. I know this not what you meant but a job is great. If he has an ambition how about some money to education for when his older. Like if he wants to act maybe 400 dollars towards college that you can increase with each holiday.

^Well, those are...interesting.   We don't spend hundreds of dollars on gifts, don't know many families that do. A hundred, sure....sometimes even up to two.  And his college fund is also not a birthday gift.

MADBRIAN....thanks again for your suggestion of the Escape Room.  We booked one here in Boston, (same company as the NY one) and he's pretty excited by it!

Fantastic!  Hope you enjoy it!  Our family is fairly obsessed with escape rooms.  We've done just about all of them in north Jersey.

We had our escape the room on Saturday.  Had a great time...we even escaped!

Thanks again, for the suggestion!

Great news!  Glad to hear it!  Giving a successful out-of-the-box gift is a unique joy.
