Laurie Metcalf is really getting some awards love. The woman is a treasure, and I'm thinking she's going to win one of those three Emmys she was nominated for yesterday. She has a legitimate chance in any of her categories, aside from Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has that category locked down until Veep has run it's course.
Nice to see Maisie Williams at long last get some recognition for her brilliant work on GAME OF THRONES, but they'll probably toss the award to the Inevitable Maggie Smith for that goddamn DOWNTON ABBEY thing.
I'd rather have seen Kit Harington's GofT nomination go to Michael McKean for BETTER CALL SAUL.

Very sad to see Crazy Ex-Girlfriend totally ignored in the main categories. I finally started watching it this week and it's a total delight. Plus, Rachel Bloom is an absolute tour-de-force on the show. Modern Family keeps getting its obligatory nomination, but this show was far more deserving.
It seems like Sarah Paulson will finally get her Emmy, which is long overdue. And though I'm sure he won't win, how nice to see RuPaul nominated as host of Drag Race- wish the show could have been nominated as well.

I think you're probably right that Louise-Dreyfus will probably win, but if I had my 'druthers, I'd prefer Metcalf.
As Selina Meyers, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is doing excellent work in a style of dry sarcasm that's always been uniquely her own. It's like her inimitable trademark. I saw it on SNL, and again as Elaine on Seinfeld, and now as Selina. I'm over-simplifying, but her roles are almost "plug and play" because when you see her name attached to a role, there's a guarantee that you will see that distinct "brand" of comedic delivery. In a lot of ways, Selina could be Elaine, if Elaine was prompted to go into politics after she was released from jail in the Seinfeld finale.
Laurie Metcalf however, always seems to "dig a little deeper in the well" to create more layered performances in all of her roles. As Dr. Jenna James on Getting On, she created so many moments where I was simultaneously trapped between "laughter at" and "sadness for" her character. Even regarding something as superficial as make-up, Metcalf has shown more detail in her characterizations. (I mention that because I can't think of any role Louis-Dreyfus has done where she doesn't look fantastic. Maybe just the luck of the draw?)
Good genes, good stylist. And to her credit, Julia has never tried to present herself as "average" or "Hollywood plain." None of her characters have ever been defined by their being hot, but she owns it, as opposed to other shows like "30 Rock" or "Glee," which give us objectively attractive performers and then tell us they're "homely."
I'm hoping beyond hope that Tatiana Maslany gets the award this year, if only for the scene in Orphan Black where Sarah considers suicide with Beth watching over her. I still don't know how she plays all of those roles.
Viola is fantastic and is likely going to win again but the storyline wasn't as good this year as it has been before.
It didn't get a lot of major love in the main categories (which it should have), but I'm so glad Jane the Virgin got some love especially for their fantastic narrator.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
I knew People vs OJ was gonna get a bunch of nominations, but I was very surprised that John Travolta was one of them. I thought he was the worst in the cast. Nathan Lane's F Lee Bailey is a close second.
The third season of Orange is the New Black was lackluster all around, so I'm not surprised it got shut out. The fourth season was excellent and deserves to be nominated next year.

The long-overdue recognition for The Americans makes me very happy, although I wish Holly Taylor had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Her performance has grown and deepened so much over the past four seasons and she deserves recognition. I'm also a bit surprised that Langella wasn't nominated for Guest Actor (I also thought he would be nominated for All the Way, but that didn't happen either).
I was surprised that The Good Wife was essentially shut out of the major categories for its last season. I expected a token nomination for Christine Baranski, at least, and probably for Margulies, as well.
I imagine that Metcalf will win for Horace and Pete, since it looks like JLD is riding toward a fifth consecutive Emmy and I imagine Poehler/Fey will jointly take Guest Actress/comedy.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Patti LuPone not being nominated for "Penny Dreadful" as the cut wife is mystifying to me.
