There's some general excitement and confusion on the AUDRA IS PREGNANT!!!!! thread, but the sheer strangeness and noteworthiness of this maybe deserves its own thread.
Crazy news. While I would pay some big money to see Glover perform on stage, I assume this will be pretty challenging for the rest of the cast to re-learn new staging in a short amount of time. I'll be interested to see how this plays out...
If Wolfe cut the actually-involved Josephine Baker arc, I can't imagine they'll have him play a celebrity of the day. It's just an interesting puzzle how he could be extrapolated into the show, except as some kind of ghostly accompanying figure or just a member of the ensemble (impossible, right?). So much effort was put into giving the show more specific focus.
Since his choreography is the highlight of the show, I don't think that making a new character is a bad thing. If he only has a bit part, it's not likely to get someone who's already gone to return to see him for 5 minutes.
In one of the TV pieces about Shuffle Along, Savion said there was one number in the show that he loved so much, he was finding it difficult to resist performing a cameo in it. He implied he would turn up in that number at some point, so maybe it's an already existing number that will just feature a solo or something?
Unless I hate this when I see it in two weeks (which I seriously doubt), this will definitely cause me to make a return visit! I love tap, and a chance to see him perform live, even if just for a few minutes, would be worth the ticket to me.

But why would someone pay $100 to see him for a few minutes when you could go to one of his own, full performances?
Because I haven't been able to make it to any of his performances on the dates/locations where they've happened? It's not like he does numerous shows a week in NY (where I spend about 1/3 of my time) like he presumably will if he joins the show.

I get it. I'm just hoping it's a bigger part bc he seems too busy to be tied up for a few minutes 8 shows a week. :)
It would be nice! I haven't seen the show yet so I can't comment on how they would work him it. Exchanged my tickets back when Audra was sick and now I'll see it 2 weeks from today!!
It doesn't seem clear if it's a new role or not, but I could see him performing the tap part of the William Grant Still section- it's a great featured moment for the dancer.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I'm still dying for the update on his role. I saw the Pennsylvania number on the nbc special. Do you think that will be the extent of the role? I hope it's more so it's worth the return.
