Into The Woods Audition Tips.

Hello. I'm in deep distress! 

On the 18th of May I have an "Into The Woods" audition.

i want to try out for "Little Red, The Narrator, or the harp" I have a mostly soprano voice. I can though sing alto parts. 

I was wondering if any of you have audition song ideas?  Or just tips . Its my first big audition. Thank you:)

The harp? Is there some version out there where that is more than just a prop?

Also, the Narrator is played by a guy, because in the stage version the narrator doubles as "The Mysterious Man", who then turns out to be (spoiler!) the Baker's father. 

Justlee, are you familiar with the stage version of "Into the Woods"?   Don't use the movie as a guide because some significant changes were made to that version from the stage version, just so you know.

Yes, the production we are doing has the Narrator as a guy or girl.  I haven't done it before so I'm puzzled:P

I'm familiar I've seen different versions.

Hehe, yes our production has the harp as a character with acting/solo.

Just to be clear, we are talking about the Stephen Sondheim musical "Into the Woods", correct? Because as far as I know, that show does not have the harp as a character, and if Sondheim rewrote the show at some point I'm unaware of it.  Is this for a school, or a community theater?

My school did have the narrator as 2 females (all girls school with only a few boys from our brother school) and they did add an ensemble (some wood sprites who mainly moved sets and props and some lords and ladies). I gather it was pretty difficult to get permission to do it though; as expected, Sondheim is pretty picky about changes to his work. So it is possible that OP's director has got the necessary permission. No idea how you could possibly work a harp into a speaking/singing part though.

I was thinking the same thing.  I think I read somwhere once that anyone who wants to put on 'West Side Story' has to sign an agreement that they will not make any amendments to the show at all (specifically, they won't move the musical numbers around the way the movie does).  And the harp is only mentioned once in the show, I'm not even sure where it would come in as an actual character.

Scarywarhol, this is NOTHING.  At my school's production of Little Mermaid, we are adding the song "Baby Beluga", there are only two mersisters, and there are two girls that split Sebastian's role.  Their names are Sebastian and Sylvia.  SYLVIA!!  And there is an extra seagull that takes some of Scuttle's lines named Scamper.
