The Pope played nice while he was here spouting cliches about peace and equality blah blah blah.

But the first thing he says when he gets back home:

Kim Davis is right

Frank is not throwing away his shot!
He is not throwing away his shot!
Hey yo, he's just like his country,
He's old, hateful and bitchy,
and he is not throwing away his shot!

He needs to talk less. Smile more...

He didn't say anything about Kim Davis specifically, but of course he never speaks about anything specifically -- he couched his answer in very carefully worked out vague generalities that are hard to disagree as far as they go, and it has to be clearly stated that they don't go far at all.

"Who am I to judge?", my ass. Isn't discrimination the strongest form of judgement?

The "Who am I to judge?" comment was about celibate gay priests and them alone.

The "who am I to judge?" quote has been taken by far too many well-meaning but deluded people to signal a change in attitude on the part of Pope Sunshine towards those wicked degenerate gay people.

From what I read from the Tazber post he seemed to say defiance in the face of the law should be a right. What else did he say?  Gave up my Catholichood a long time ago, but what if I'm an objector to war and refuse to fight, isn't that a right I should have?

Well, yes, and it is.

But should you be able to join the army, convert to a pacifist sect, and insist on remaining in your post while you refuse to do core aspects of your job because of your religious beliefs? I wouldn't think so. :)

She wasn't required to issue marriage licenses to gays when she signed up for her job :).

Not sure what your circumcision has to do with this, but the right you talk about exists:

They didn't review every law she would have to uphold, no. The understanding was that she would uphold all of them, even ones that may change over time.

Well, I can tweak the metaphor, then. Someone belongs to a pacifist religious group but decides to join the army in peacetime, when its activities present no problems of conscience. Then war breaks out, but the person refuses either to perform required duties or to quit, citing religious freedom. Would you support such a person?

Of course, this person should have been able to foresee that participating in war is a real possibility when you join the army. But Kim Davis, last November, should have been able to foresee that issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples would soon be part of the duties of the office she was running for.

This is the oath she took:

30A.020 Oath of clerk and deputies. Every clerk and deputy, in addition to the oath prescribed by Section 228 of the Constitution, shall, before entering on the duties of his office, take the following oath in presence of the Circuit Court: "I, ....., do swear that I will well and truly discharge the duties of the office of .............. County Circuit Court clerk, according to the best of my skill and judgment, making the due entries and records of all orders, judgments, decrees, opinions and proceedings of the court, and carefully filing and preserving in my office all books and papers which come to my possession by virtue of my office; and that I will not knowingly or willingly commit any malfeasance of office, and will faithfully execute the duties of my office without favor, affection or partiality, so help me God." The fact that the oath has been administered shall be entered on the record of the Circuit Court.

South Florida, she took her oath of office a little over a year ago. There was NO TALK THEN ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF GAY MARRIAGE?

When I was hired as a teacher 11 years ago, I wasn't required to administer a state test every year. Now, I am. I can't refuse their administration because I don't agree with them, or I'd be (justly) fired.

Some are getting me wrong, I do not defend Kim Davis, that she is a focus of national attention is an outrage to me.  I'd rather just forget about this than make it an issue other than to write she's a moron and morons have a right to be morons.

Stop indulging the stupidity of anybody who compares objecting to two people getting married and killing civilians in a war. Just, as they say, stop.
