Saw the show on Thursday night; loved it. Although I think some of the writing is weak, it's well directed, brilliantly structured, and a load of fun.

Simply put - Matt Henry is a star - a force to be reckoned with. I was pretty let down with Killian Donnelly's acting; but I wonder whether it's an underwritten character. Amy Lennox is great and the ensemble - especially the Angels - are solid. I love Harvey Fierstein's book, despite a slow start with lots of signposting, it has some great one liners and as I said before, structurally it's great.

The lyrics are my biggest problem with this show; a lot of it is repetitive, and the rhyming is pretty poor in most places. Most of the score is memorable, but I think what Cyndi Lauper has done is write a lot of quite good songs, rather than a great new Broadway score. As my friend said, if this was a Cyndi Lauper album, it'd be hit after hit. However, for this show, for the most part it works a treat.

The audience was loving it, and the house full sign was out. I think this has filled a gap in the West End - a big Broadway transfer that is loads of fun and marketed excellently, I wouldn't be shocked if this ran for years to come.

^Totally agree about the score. The show had a huge wave of good will coming into the Tonys, and the message is fantastic, and it's a load of fun, so that's why it won all the awards, not because it's artistically great (and not better than Matilda!). I do think Charlie can be a great character - Stark Sands was incredible - so the weakness might just be Donnelly or the direction of his character.

Totally disagree about Killian's performance. Though I thought that both Matt Henry and Amy Lennox were super, for me Killian stole the show (both vocally and acting-wise).  I thought Fierstein's Book was genuinely witty throughout and beautifully crafted. The score is okay but the Book was the strength of the show for me, along with Jerry Mitchell's direction.

It does not set the world alight - but I really enjoyed this show  (and actually preferred it to Matilda!).

Kinky Boots's music, story, and direction have definitely won many hearts so far with audiences, critics, and awards presenters, but I'm not so sure that any pre-existing good will helped; it was a dark horse that came out of nowhere. (If anything, I think its past competitors were hurt by some of their advocates' displays of envy.)

Has someone experience with row B 10 in the Adelphi Theatre? Is it a good seat or is it too close?

http://theatremonkey.com/ADELPHIstalls.htm B10 on seating diagram is not in red.

Advice:   http://theatremonkey.com/ADELPHIbooking.htm#ST  Nothing about B10 for this production.  But, site says the stage is low.

What did you think about Matt Henry?

Adored Matt Henry. Personally I thought Amy Lennox was WAY over the top and found myself cringing a lot of the time. In regards to the plot, what exactly is the point of the guy singing the guitar song in the bar right at the beginning? Just hideous! But apart from these two things I thought it was amazing. Never been so overwhelmed with such campness before - I was bathing in it and I loved it!
