While other states are fighting tooth and nail to deny access to the ballot box, Oregon is trying to simplify and expand voting.
Governor Kate Brown signed a first-in-the-nation bill that will automatically register all eligible citizens to vote when they obtain or renew a driver's license or state ID card. Voters are then notified by mail of their registration and can choose to remove themselves from voting rolls; if they do not, they automatically receive a voting ballot 3 weeks before each election (all voting in Oregon is done by mail).
What a novel practice. I've lived in at least 2 states before where even getting an absentee ballot was a pain. I'm no fan of the long lines at my polling place on election day.
Thank goodness my county in MD makes the absentee ballot forms available online for downloading. Hopefully, I'll live to see the day in which I can cast my ballot electronically from any place on the planet.

I do love the idea of being able to print an absentee ballot online. I know people for whom getting one was a major issue. The either signed up too late to have one mailed to them, or by the time that they got it, filled it out and sent it back, the election would have been over. Understandably they were pissed.
But, I honestly think that voting electronically online is a very bad idea. I mean think about it. If there are people who are are computer savy enough to steal people's ID's from online stores etc, it would be too easy to have a corrupted election as well. There have been alligations in the past of there being similar issues with simple in person electronic voting machines. Being able to do it online would easily cause similar issues but on a greater scale.
