I shed no tears for Jay Z & co. That being said, the one thing that excited me about Tidal was the introduction of on demand CD quality HiFi sound. Look, I'm a Spotify user. I love the convenience having access to such a massive library of music in my pocket, but as they continue to grow, I do worry that our ears - over time - are going to get "dumbed down" and used to hearing this highly compressed, lower quality audio production. If - big IF - if Tidal were able to get a library as large and diverse as Spotify's, I maintain that the monthly price was very reasonable for access to CD quality HiFi sound. If this whole thing has any influence, I hope it encourages Spotify to start a Premium+ service with HiFi sound. A three tiered system of free, Premium (commercial free, unlimited streams) and Premium+ (commercial free, unlimited streams, CD quality sound) could serve (an admittedly) smaller segment that cares about audio quality and truly knock Tidal out of the marketplace.
