Hello everyone! This coming weekend I am looking at taking a weekend theatre trip to Chicago and would love to catch Book of Mormon at the Bank of America and Carousel at the Civic Opera House. I was wondering how obstructed the obstructed view seats are at the Bank of America theatre. The seats I'm looking at are Row D in the orchestra on the far left (or right, both sides are available). As for Carousel, I was looking on goldstar and saw that they have seats in the boxes available. Are these seats any good?
Also, on a somewhat related note, would Carousel be appropriate for a 9 year old? I admit, I'm the one person that doesn't know the show, but the stellar cast of Laura Osnes, Steven Pasquale, Matthew Hydzik, Charlotte d'Amboise, and Tony Roberts has me sold on seeing the show, but I am cusrious as to how a 9 year old (who has never been exposed to theatre), would react.
I can only really speak for the Book of Mormon seats. The only time I had any issue with Bank of American was during The Last Ship and the two level set was cut off from the mezzanine overhang. You'll be down enough that you won't miss anything.
I can't WAIT for Carousel, it'll be my first time at the Opera house. We took advantage of the cheap goldstar seats as well.
I've sat on the far sides of the Bank of America, and usually some of the action is cut off, but nothing too bad. I sat very far to the side for Book of Mormon a couple years ago, and I only missed maybe 30 seconds of action.
At the Lyric, I've never sat in the boxes, but they're not off to the sides--they're actually more of a loge than traditional box seats. On the Lyric Opera website, if you click on seats for a performance, you can see a picture of the view from that seat. It looks to be a very clear and unobstructed view.
I saw Mormon in Chicago 3 or 4 times from those limited-view seats, and they really are fantastic. You get a bit of another show too, since you can see into the wings.

I sat in the dress circle's obstructed view seats for BOM. They weren't bad. You don't want the last row, but second to last row of the dress circle should be fine.
The Civic Opera House has great seating. I saw Faust a few years ago and sat in the fifth from the last row. The seats were fine, the super titles were easy to read, but I'd still bring opera glasses if you are considering nosebleed seats.
Thanks for the tips! By chance, does anyone know how the lottery has been? I consider that route, but I might go with the obstructed view just to secure seats.
