I believe it was widely reported that the screeners (and I have one) were rushed into the voters' hands without the sort of careful digital enhancement that ensures brightness of image and clarity. I can vouch for the dark, difficult to fully enjoy quality of the screener, the film's second act material at times almost impossible to see, including a big chunk of "Last Midnight." I saw a clip on TV last night, appreciably brighter and more colorful, and have to assume the for-sale edition includes significant technological help.

After reading reviews and looking at screenshots, I can assure that the quality is top notch!

'For Your Consideration' Awards DVD Screeners are never remastered or actual representations of the later-down-the-road home video incarnations. They are basically quick digital transfers made by the film studio to promote a new film to the press and voters. No color correction or exposure balance or even sound balancing has been done to these DVD screeners.

And to answer your question, yes... the DVD/Blu-Ray incarnation of Rob Marshall's INTO THE WOODS has been fully remastered and looks and sounds gorgeous. Yes, all the dark scenes look crisp and exposure balanced so all details are seen.

Also, keep in mind TV ads and promotional clips are notorious for brightening the scenes. So I wouldn't base an opinion on that... (the ads for Sweeney todd for example had the colors and brightness kicked up quite a bit)

My question: If the voter screeners aren't up to snuff regarding sound and picture, how can the voters use them to gauge sound mixing or cinematography? Or am I mistaken in assuming that it's voters who receive the screeners?
