Saw the opening night of the Tooting Arts Club pop up theatre version of Sweeney Todd.
The production is simply stunning and one of the best shows I've ever seen. Hats off to the director for such mastery of staging in such an intimate venue managing to bring out so much more comedy and inventive use of the audience.
Every member of the cast were first class and perfectly cast.
Jeremy Seacomb and Siobian McCarthy were superb.
Having seen Imelda Staunton's performance a couple of years ago I didn't think it could be beat but Siobhan McCarthy demonstrated not only what a brilliant actress and comedian she is but also how blessed with such a beautiful voice she was able to make her character more rounded, vulnerable and manipulative at the same time.
Jeremy Seacomb demonstrated that he is equally as skilled an actor as singer playing the part at the start with real heart (real tears during his first big number) and evil menace and rage throughout the show.
I know this has a strictly limited run but if you get the chance go and see it - you won't be disappointed.The production deserves to be extended and I hope Cameron McIntosh sees fit to support this.

Really excited to be seeing this on May 8! Also seeing the ENO production on April 5 - so will be very interested to compare the two productions!

I'm still undecided whether to see this or not. I'm seeing the ENO Sweeney, but will this as well be too much Sweeney to handle? (I do love Sweeney though!)

Addison, go. We were there last night and it was incredible, dare I say, definitive? We're going to ENO too and I just wish I'd seen them in a different order.

Thanks for the recommendation. Can you see wherever you sit? Were you sat in the top price seats?

It's tiny, we had to change seats from later in the run, cos my mum decided to visit, so only had premium seats left, but really you're not going to miss much wherever you sit and it really is very special indeed.
