Wasn't sure where this would go in the other threads, so I just made a new thread.

I'm actually appreciating that Broadway.com is putting full videos on the press performances on their Youtube channel.

They kept the man/dog (cringe) and the leading boy who was a major issue up in Boston. Morrison certainly brings a Dick Van Dyke like presence to the character but I'm not sure that was what was lacking. Believe is one of the songs that gave the show a Blues Clues feeling - just for kids. I wonder what they've done with the Hook/Producer character? I've got to imagine there's been some wholesale reworking being done for Kelsey Grammer or he is going to come up looking underused. I hope someone finds Mia Michaels a Broadway vehicle that fits her style - which I love - but in Boston for Neverland it seemed very out of place.

Up In One, just curious, what aspects of the leading boy did you find to be an issue in Cambridge?

Cheesy. Boring. Formulaic.

SPOILERS

RC - he was not a great actor, stiff, line readings as if he were reading. Not sympathetic at all. Until of course were told in a very clumsy way that something major is happening in his life. How can one not feel something at that point. But we feel more for the plot and situation than for the character/actor. Hate criticizing child actors but he is the 2nd or 3 rd lead.

Up In One, thanks for answering. I don't disagree with you about his acting. I felt like I could see him "acting," when that's never the goal. I'd been curious whether you felt anything negative about his singing, because I did *love* his singing.

Kinda bummed that they changed the keys to Barrie's songs, not gonna lie.

But of course, on the "Hook/Stronger" vid, there are people still butthurt about the leading man switch.

I was disappointed by the sound that's resulted from the key changes as well. Hopefully the full orchestrations will help.

Morrison certainly has a different take on the Barrie character than Jordan (more Gene Kelly and less repressed playwright), and of course it is not a surprise that he moves very gracefully on stage. It does look like they have changed a lot of things to take advantage of his strengths. Some of the changes look interesting.

But why in the **** does tortured, turn-of-the-century playwright J.M. Barrie
move like Gene Kelly?!?

A plot point is that Barries bonding with the family reawakens his creative sprit. Maybe Barrie expresses that through dance ? They are singing 21st century era pop songs too though. Gene Kelly is st least closer to the era being portrayed.
