This may be a dumb question but since the concept album is supposed to be released in April, does anyone know if there are plans for an actual cast album?

I still don't get the point of this. It should have happened years ago, not just as the show opens on Broadway. They might as well wait and do it with the real cast.

I'm betting the concept album will be all we get.

I'm sure we'll get both.

It's just so pointless to release a concept album when the show is well past the concept stage.

It does not make any sense to me. I truly want to know what they're thinking because I can't imagine what the logic could possibly be. Even if I turn out to find their logic flawed, I'd be interested to know what it is!

Ok, follow up question, if there wasn't going to be a cast album, wouldn't the cast know about it?

No, not necessarily. They may not have been told either way yet. In this case, though, I'd imagine an actual cast album is a given.

"No, not necessarily."

Yeah but at this point, you'd think they'd know the concept album is gonna be a thing.

I hope so. I want Laura Michelle Kelly's "All That Matters" on me iPod.

If I remember correctly from the "Dracula" debacle, as long as he doesn't record the cast (and call it "the original broadway cast" or something of the sort) during the run or something like 16 weeks after with equity performers, he doesn't have to even pay. Or if this was not recorded before contracts, then he will have to pay the cast something like 2 weeks salary.

Unfortunately since its going to be a star-studded concept album, I also highly doubt we will get a cast album as I'm guessing the cast has already been "paid" to not record.

I bet Harvey is thinking that they can snag a radio hit with some of the music given that Barlow is a top selling artist in the U.K.
He probably wants some radio-ready versions.

No doubt there will be a cast album also.

Welp, according to this article, looks like there'll still be a cast album.

Elton John released a concept album for "Aida" right before out of town tryouts and they still had an original cast after opening.

I wonder if the public would be willing to accept the actual show versions? They did a pop cover of "Let It Go" that got almost no airplay whereas the actual film version was a radio hit.

If anything it would make more sense to do one double album, one disc of the show versions and a bonus disc with the covers. Since they're being released concurrently. And maybe let a standard version with just the cast album be available also for a lower price.

The cast album is absolutely happening. What I don't understand is why release the concept album after Broadway opening, and not earlier, if the purpose is to add further promotion to the show. Oh well. Whatever helps keep a show alive!

Actually, Mr. N, a double album would be a great idea!

I agree with the post about Harvey hoping for a pop hit single from the album which he hopes will put butts in seats.

Anyone who knows anything about the real JM Barrie knows how ridiculous it is to portray him with his hands all over Sylvia, as we see in the "What You Mean To Me" video.
Looks like they've made a lot of changes, but the choreographer, the pop score and the actor playing the dog are all still there. That may be a mistake.

Audiences at ART didn't seem to think they were such a mistake.
