Is it safe to say this will be non-eq given that NETworks is producing? It's listed on their site. Given the vast size of the Broadway sets, I imagine it'll be scaled down significantly to make this financially feasible.

My guess is that it will be non-eq.

Either way, I think this show will do fantastic on tour. Sure, it's not the most well-known show, but it does have Woody Allen's name attached to it and audiences across the country should love the material.

LOVED this on Broadway. I am happy that it is touring.

I really liked it too, bwayphreak. I thought it was really funny, and the cast was awesome. The choreography was super, as well. I'm glad I didn't listen to the critics on this one.

Are there photos of the Broadway sets? I keep hearing about how big and beautiful they are, yet when I put in a Google search, I come up with very little and what is there, seems...very overrated.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

^ underrated would be the LAST word I would use to describe the sets for Bullets Over Brodway. The set was one of the most impressive and massive sets I have ever seen. I left the St. James wondering how in god's name they fit that entire set into one theatre.

It's really just how many pieces there were. I saw the show and too left wondering how it all fit backstage. Anyone have any pictures of all of it backstage?

I enjoyed the show as well, I saw it twice! Only criticism is that they definitely would have benefited from an original score to fit the story better.

"Is it safe to say this will be non-eq given that NETworks is producing?"

No, it is not safe to say either of those things. For starters, NETworks is not just a producer, they general manage shows that are produced by others. Additionally, NETworks has put out shows like Billy Elliot, Les Miz, Dirty Dancing, and Phantom of the Opera, all of which were/are Equity productions.

It *might* be safe to assume that Bullets will be non-Equity based on the fact that it royally bombed in New York and is a risky investment; but not because NETworks is involved.

Pinto,
When you're looking at the likes of Crazy For You and even more recently Nice Work If You Can Get It….those aren't really original scores though either, are they?
Although I guess you could see Crazy For You working since it was largely built on Girl Crazy (is that what the movie was called?) with a similar storyline and Gershwin music.
But Nice Work If You Can Get It….that was a different story, wasn't it? Or was it also built on an established musical with a similar story?
I know one of the biggest complaints about Bullets Over Broadway was that it wasn't an original score which partly left it ineligible.
I still liked it though. I always like the way Woody incorporates classics and standards into his movies too.

I wouldn't say this is risky. I'd imagine it would have no problem selling well in one week sitdowns.

Nice Work If You Can Get It took existing Gershwin tunes, and built a new story around it. Girl Crazy was a show, and then in 1992 they changed it so much that they changed the title to Crazy for You since it was so different. Bullets Over Broadway didn't work as well because they already had an existing story, and then filled the story with 1920s music, which didn't exactly fit the story as well. I guess it is easier to make a show out of existing show tunes, and build a story around them than taking an existing story, and adding existing songs to it. Bullets would have probably been so much better with an original score

So it sounds like it's okay to take music that isn't original to a show (or created for a show) as long as you're building the show around those existing songs.
But you can't take unoriginal songs and just plug them into an existing show like Bullets did.
That's what it seems like.

Either way, both shows were great.

Crazy For You is still a top 3 for me when it comes to all the musicals I've seen. Maybe even my favorite of all time.

Bullets isn't the best I've seen, but it's still fantastic and was thoroughly entertaining. So glad I ignored the critics and saw it last summer. And my friend who has probably seen 100+ shows on Broadway and has really high expectations of musicals really liked it a lot too. There really wasn't a weak link in that whole cast.
And the show was good enough I might see it again when it comes to the Pantages in Hollywood if that's where it's going.
