Easily the best 1970s New York noir-horror-alien-abduction-Catholic-guilt-love-triangle thriller ever made, this unfairly forgotten gem from Larry Cohen (It's Alive) turns a concise justification tactic — "because God told me to" — into a street-smart prophesy of the perverse moral clarity behind 21st century extremism.
I LOVE '70s New York noir and was delighted to find the whole movie right on YouTube. And guess who should be in the first five minutes? Sam Williams, probably shot (so to speak) in his downtime from Broadway's Chorus Line.
I think I remember seeing God Told Me To as a VHS rental a million years ago. I *miss* good old fashioned b-movies. And Tony LoBianco was one of my teen dreams. I'm enjoying God Told Me To on youtube, not least because we finally find out how Paul San Marco injured his leg.
This is great. I love seeing the A Chorus Line actors on tv and movies.
