What musicals do you think should be made into movies?
I would like to see some of Rodgers and Hammerstein's work reassessed as modern movies, particularly Carousel and South Pacific. I would say that The Sound of Music and The King and I are pretty untouchable as movies already.
I'm surprised La Cage Aux Folles hasn't been done yet.
I think it's only a matter of time before Wicked and even Newsies are made into films. I could really see Kinky Boots being made but maybe the original film is still too new. The same goes for Billy Elliot.
Wasn't City of Angels considered for a movie a long time ago? The Drowsy Chaperone and Gypsy have been talked about for ages. Matilda is also being made into a film but can't be produced until 2019.
Other than those; Aida, a new version of A Little Night Music, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard and Ragtime would really benefit from the big screen treatment.
If Into the Woods is a hit, might we see some more Sondheim?
Good choices. I would say though that Evita, Phantom and Rent need a couple of decades before they can be redone, even though the last two really need better interpretations.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
