50 years ago today one of the most legendary shows in Broadway history opened at the Imperial Theatre. It was called FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Many speculated that the show relied too heavily on the Jewish audience and would quickly fail. Instead, it became the longest running show in Broadway history (for a while), running 3,242 performances, making a superstar out of Zero Mostel along with introducing one of the most well-known stagings of a show ever by Jerome Robbins and a legendary score filled with such standards as "Tradition", "If I Were A Rich Man", and "Sunrise, Sunset". Happy 50th anniversary!!
