There will definitely be a TV Cast Album, no doubt be Masterworks Broadway since the SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE recording was by them.

I think the promo looks great and I am THRILLED at the new material. I love Peter Pan as a property... Barrie's masterwork is genius. The original musical has great songs and rests in the hearts of millions, but the material is not the strongest in construction and has been rethought in smaller ways for every revival, but has desperateLy needed an overhaul. I hope it succeeds and breathes new life.

I'm excited to see how the song by Moose and Carolyn Leigh works! So they've got a viewer in me.

Argh. I just watched a video of "Ugg uh Wugg" on Youtube, (which I personally think is pretty cute). Can't get it out of my head now. I get that it's not PC, but will be interesting to see how they change it.

I get that she's supposed to draw an audience or something but NBC needs to cast people that can do musical theater as the main role. Still, I'm glad that they cast some Broadway stars in some of the roles.

It sounds to me like she does a pretty good job at musical theatre. What is it that you feel someone else can do better and who do you see in the role?

Musical theatre background or not, if she is able to portray the character well, then I'm a happy camper!

I'm excited, but I do think Allison needs to act more "boyish". From the previews, it seems like she's playing a motherly older sister (like Maria from The Sound of Music). I found this most obvious of what we've seen of "I wont grow up" and "I'm flying". She has a great voice, but I think she may need to "rough up" a little more I guess. One of the reasons I like Cathy Rigby's performance was the fact that she maintained a balance between boyish in her acting scenes, and in some songs, and in other songs (I Wont Grow Up, I Gotta Crow, etc.) she had a very sweet voice, where she gets to be more natural (I'm Flying, Neverland, etc.)

I'm still exited though!GIRLS Star Allison Williams To Play Peter Pan In NBC Production

Was it announced that a cast recording would be coming out? If so, what day?

I'm rather surprised it isn't on Masterworks Broadway. Perhaps the only reason THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE was released by Sony was Underwood's affiliation with them.

I'm glad they truly are releasing it though. I was beginning to become a bit skeptical in the absence of an official announcement.

Yes, Sony released Sound of a music because of Underwood.

Looks like they're leaving out quite a bit of materal for the soundtrack. The track list is missing a few songs listed in the song list that was posted previously.

Thanks to the wonderful scheduling of a retail job, I will have to DVR the event this year. I'm not happy that I won't get to watch it live but am really looking forward to the production nonetheless. The cast is great.

I just hope Alison Williams can act better than Carrie did as Maria. She sounded incredible, but that was awkward to watch.

Well, here's the difference: Williams IS an actress that can sing. Carrie is a singer that cannot act.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The always-entertaining Kevin Fallon has a wonderful article on The Daily Beast today about how the cast of Peter Pan knows we all hate-watched The Sound of Music.

===

This is not to say that Williams as the lead won’t baffle some viewers the same way that the casting of a country singer as a yodeling theatre icon did last year. Anyone unfamiliar with the Peter Pan musical, for example, might not know of the grand tradition of casting women—from Mary Martin to Sandy Duncan—as the titular boy who won’t grow up.

“I called Lena Dunham the night before [the casting] was announced,” Williams says. “She said, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s the coolest thing. It’s so subversive. You’re going to be in drag.’”

And those who do know the show’s cross-dressing history, particularly those who wore out their VHS tapes of the Mary Martin production that aired on TV in 1960, might balk at the casting of the polarizing Girls star in the cherished role.

I can honestly say that it wasn't a hate watch for me. I had never seen the stage production of the show (only the film) and was genuinely interested in how it would turn out...the only thing I really didn't care for was Underwood's acting. The sets, vocals, costumes, and Audra McDonald as the Mother Abbess were all fabulous. I even thought Stephen Moyer was okay, though compared to Borle and Benanti he just was kind of there.

I have no real qualms about the casting (other than Smee as Darlling, despite wanting more of Borle), I only wish the show hadn't been so heavily promoted -- including that special (I know, I know, not required viewing); few surprises remain. Williams is clearly highly trained to play the role, and gifted. I wish we could discover her for ourselves just a bit Thursday night. She's so high profile, virtually everywhere, much more than Underwood this time last year, and it's as if they want to turn her into a star so she'll shine this week. Discovering her magic would be more compelling to me. But hey, this is prime-time television, all risk-taking is minimized. They don't need my vote. And I'll be watching.
