Taking my dad to NYC for the first time and wanted to take him to a "Fallon Tonight" taping. They tape at 5 in the evening. Are they usually done in time for us to get to a 7:30 Broadway show? Hoping someone who may have been to a taping in the past can help me out.

Thanks

You'll be out in plenty of time, yes.

Unless you're rolling the dice on standby tickets, Fallon shows typically sell out of seats online well in advance. I never saw them posted with any seats available...

And you could always leave early, right?

When I did Fallon they wouldn't let you leave. The only way my friend was able to was by telling them she didn't feel well.

When I went to see Letterman, the show they did was the show that made it to air...in other words, it's about an hour. So if it starts taping at 5 it should be over by 6ish. And you can't leave in the middle of it. I guess you should just be sure it starts taping at 5, and that's not when they start letting the line in...

Like Haterobics stated tickets to Fallon are extremely hard to get. Follow him on Twitter and Facebook for when dates/tickets will be released. I live outside of NYC so my dates were not flexible. When Fallon had Late Night you could not leave during taping either. Of course if you say you are sick, they cannot stop you. Are you sure Tonight Show tapes at 5:00? I thought it was 5:30. If you cannot get tickets Seth Myers is an easier alternative. But he tapes later in the day. Letterman can also be easier. You will have to answer a trivia question in order to get tickets.

Has anyone tried with the Daily Show? I have DS tickets for September, so I was curious if I could actually make an 8pm curtain after the taping, or if his theater is too far off of the theater district.

Seeing Letterman, and getting to have a conversation with him, was one of the highlights of my trip last fall. He is retiring soon so tickets may become harder to get - apply online a few months ahead. I was out with plenty of time to get to the Met - though I just grabbed a Big Mac for dinner that night.

Fallingawake, the taping is literally 30 minutes, so you'll be out in plenty of time. The nearest subway is at least 10 minute walk from 11th and 51st though, so Id take a cab to the theater district just to be safe.
