Anyone seen this production? How does it compare to New York? Are there any noticeable differences or is this just a carbon copy of the Broadway production? I know usually when a show moves to Vegas they tend to make it shorter than its original incarnation.
I have not seen the Broadway production, but did see it in Vegas as my good friend Justin Mortelitti plays Drew. I asked him this same question when i saw the show a couple of months ago, and he said two songs were cut from the Vegas show. He said the show is more or less the same, only about 15 to 20 minutes shorter.
I saw at the show last year and one of the changes I found, by comparing what I saw to Wikipedia synopsis was "Harden My Heart/Shadows of the Night" takes place at the start of Act 2 instead of Act 1, so Sherrie performs "Here I Go Again" in her Act 1 attire rather than her Venus Club attire. Another thing that is different is there is no "I Wanna Rock (reprise)" in Act 2, I think. Also, the intermission for the Las Vegas production was cut down to 7 minutes. According to someone I asked who had seen the show on Broadway and tour, many lines were cut out. However, if you never saw the original production, like myself, you wouldn't notice any of these changes.
Not going to lie, I am a little surprised that Rock Of Ages isn't truncated to an hour and a half like most Vegas bound Broadway shows. I've always felt that in NYC, going to the theatre was your night out. But, in Vegas, it's something that you do in between periods of gambling.
They did have a countdown clock. I just thought 7 was a weird choice. But what really annoyed me is that they didn't dim the lights alerting people the show was about to start again and several people were still in the bathroom line, or in my case in line at the bar:)
