I'm amazed this isn't getting more media attention

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Issues that cast Obama and the Democrats in a bad light are rarely reported. They'll scream all day about birth control is a right of all people, yet not one word about clean, available drinking water.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Bull crap-
There is a Canadian group who is working on this too. Hardly "rarely reported", if it's already international news. Its just most Yankees don't care what happens to Detroit.

This stigma is enhanced by the painting of blue lines in front of those houses that have just had their water turned off—lines painted by Homrich’s employees after a job is completed. Streets to the south of Roslyn Walker’s home showed blue line after blue line; among non-vacant houses, shut-off water was the norm.

For some reason, this actually upsets me most. Is that a common practice? It just feels like the water people are sauimpng, "Nyah, Nyah, sh¡tty poor people live here."

It's a terrible situation, but, Borstal, I've seen tons of media coverage on the issue over the last couple of months. It sometimes dominates my Facebook feed from which I follow 150+ news media sources. Unless by "media attention" you mean non-stop wall-to-wall coverage on the cable news networks.

How does this have ANYTHING to do with Obama??

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The
Sunday NY Times had a great cover story on the future of DETROIT a few wks ago, Don't have a link right now, but you can google, if you're interested in reading it.

Well, the financial ruin and the political corruption of this once great city has been a "story" for at least 3 decades.
Sad.

Is there really any incentive for people to stay in Detroit at this point? It's a wasteland and how much suffering are people going to go through waiting for that "Turn around" to happen if it ever even does?

I don't know. It's possible to conjure up an optimistic notion of the future of Detroit, when in reality the problems are so complicated, so intractable, so much bigger than what appears on the surface.

Still--I've often thought that if I were graduating from architecture school today, I'd go to Detroit. I think the idea of trying to create a life and do some good there is exciting.

And you can buy a house for less than a month's NYC rent
