Christ. Mike Wallace was insufferable for his entire career.

You can see where that awful son came from.

Seriously! Wonderful interview (thanks, Eric!), but I hope Hammerstein took a shower after to wash the slime off.

Doubt Wallace stopped listening to his own voice long enough to catch that he was illustrating perfectly the "sophisticated poseur" Hammerstein says revolts him.

Phenomenal material here!

Hysterical to see the stream of cigarette smoke wafting through the title cards.

I love Hammerstein's answer to whether he's religious or not. Interesting to know his thoughts on God just as he was about to embark on writing the lyrics for the religion-riddled Sound of Music!

What a perfect gentleman he seems to be here, and so respectful of folks with views as divergent as Paul Robeson and Ayn Rand.

His only real misstep looked at from our 20-20 hindsight today is his expectation that the about-to-premiere film of South Pacific will be one of the great films of all time. Aw well...

Astoundingly articulate, warm, respectful and insightful. Great combo.
