A brand new musical, BEST OF FRIENDS, opens tomorrow night (April 23) at the Landor:

This is a reworked & re-titled version of the ill-fated GOLDEN VOICE, which was scheduled to open at the West End's Arts Theatre last summer but was cancelled during rehearsals when it was found that there was no money to pay the cast! (One of the Producers now faces charges for fraud.)
One of my closest friends was in the original cast and he told me when they were in rehearsal that it was a strong piece with some great songs. So I'm so glad for writer/songwriter Nick Fogarty that it's finally getting a chance to be seen and heard.
The cast at the Landor is headed by Alex James Ellison, a super-talented young actor/singer/songwriter (whose fantastic debut EP "Duvet Days" I wrote an article about for BWW last month).
I'll be seeing it on the 30th - can't wait! Hope lots of Board members will check it out - support new writing!

Take it that Darren Day has now left the project?
Will try and see this, I certainly like to see upcoming British musicals, but will be hard to find the time, that is even with a week off, next week, where I am going up to Water Babies at Leicester Curve, Betty Blue Eyes at Salisbury Playhouse and a bit closer to home Avenue Q at Greenwich theatre. Same as Ace of Clubs Noel Coward's musical which is going to be staged at the Union and Zanna Don't at the Landor both will be tricky to fit in.
Looking forward to The Last 5 Years at the Greenwich Theatre after Avenue Q.

Yeah, Pol, Darren Day is not in this production, neither is George Maguire. But see it for Alex - he's a genuine star.
Btw - whatever you do, do not miss Zanna, Don't - it's a fantastic show!

I will see it, if I get time, but no an high priority at the moment.
I still haven't had a chance to see I Can't Sing, but then again I am in no rush to see that.

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. It clearly needs work but has the potential to be a good show. Has some great songs.
Cleverly and effectively directed by Robert McWhirr. Full of excellent performances and amazing vocals. And Alex James Ellison is simply oozing with star quality & natural charisma.
A brave production of a new piece of musical theatre. Go see it!
