This started previews at the Little Shubert Theatre this past weekend. Did anyone go?

Yes, I did. (POSSIBLE SPOILER): Suffice to say that the Little Shubert's record of non-hits doesn't appear to be in any danger. It's a Doris Day-Rock Hudson sex comedy (advisedly), updated for a raunchier age, including a man's visit to a gynecologist. Throw in some fantasy and a plea for more enlightened healthcare coverage and sympathetic medical personnel, and what you get is this odd amalgam that drew me in on the strength of Kerry Butler and Megan Sikora's names. Turns out, that wasn't enough.

Interesting. I've seen it billed as a musical comedy. Would you say that's accurate?

Since when is this a musical? If that were case then I would be exponentially more excited for it.

My mistake, it seems that I misread it. Wishful thinking on my part, as well.

Mamaleh, I thought rhe exact same thing about the theaters string of non-hits.....when was the last successful production there?

I can't think of one, unless POTTED POTTER or LADY DAY were considered successful--and I don't think they were.

There have been none, and there will not be under current arrangements. The Little Shubert is to theatrical venues as three card monte is to games of chance. It's rigged so you can't win, which probably explains why, if you look, you'll see its only tenants are rubes.

And let's not forget Viagara Falls. I know I won't. Ever.

I don't even know where to begin to state my distaste for this show. Calling it a "Doris Day-Rock Hudson sex comedy" is incorrect. It's really just a REALLY bad 80's/90's body switching movie where none of the jokes are funny and the audience hates life for 90 mins.

I honestly can't think of a single thing to recommend about this show. The only reason I went was to see Kerry Butler on stage again and I wish I hadn't. I sat there the whole time feeling embarrassed for a Tony nominee to have to act in a play where she has to wear a motorized fake hard-on. Whoever her agent/manager is needs to be fired for this debacle. I can't say much for the rest of the cast because they were all pretty unbearable.

The play itself is billed as a comedy yet interestingly enough I didn't laugh one time. "Maybe you just didn't think it was funny" you're probably saying to yourself but you would be mistaken. I've never been in a theatre where less of the audience laughed. There is even a moment in the show where one of the characters walks through the front row of the audience and asks for applause. This request was met with a smattering of people clapping more out of pity than enjoyment. Probably one of the most uncomfortable theatre moments in recent memory.

After leaving the show I wondered who could have written something so dated and unfunny. After taking a look at the Playbill I see that it's a couple who has been together for 30 years and written episodes of "Who's the Boss?" and "The Nanny." Those shows I actually enjoyed (when they aired) but I think it's time those guys retired from the writing business because WOOF!

Was it at least well produced?

As much as I hate Taylor Swift, even she doesn't deserve to have to sit through this. Pretty good reactionary faces to the show though.

Sadly I saw this last week. Was a shame to see Kerry Butler wasting her talents in it.My tickets were complimentary so nothing gained , nothing lost. Theatre was barely half full and laughter was minimal.

A time killer before Hedwig Saturday night and I wanted to leave at intermission. Wait, they took out the intermission so people wouldn't leave. Oh well, filled the 90 minutes then I ran to the Belasco.

i felt the same way. NO intermission.. you are trapped. I chuckled a few times ( very few) but mostly just wanted to rescue kerry Butler off the stage.

It is downright barbaric that this show actually used to have an intermission. I was actually reading some of the reviews from the Pasadena run and can't imagine why they felt this was something worth transferring Off-Broadway.

I saw this. It is definitely a classic Little Shubert flop. I found myself laughing AT it as opposed to with it. It definitely feels like a shelved sitcom episode from the 90s. The problem is you need the laugh track, and when you have an audience of about 100 people (only the front part of the seats at the little shubert was filled when I saw it) were not laughing.

They're still trying to paper for opening night (tonight). Anyone know of another show recently that's had to do that?

THE TESTAMENT OF MARY papered its opening night. This one may have to drag people in off the street. It is just god-awful.

Is there a stage door for this theatre or do actors leave through the front ??
Thanks in advance

As a surprise to no one, this show is closing earlier than expected, on June 8:
