Emma Hunton will be joining the 1st National Wicked tour as Elphaba starting April 23rd in Virginia.

I feel awful for the audiences who have to witness this.

She'll blow her voice out in no time. The good news is that her standby, Emmy Raver-Lampman, is incredible. I have a feeling she'll be going on a lot. There's no way Emma can handle that role.

She couldn't maintain Natalie in Next to Normal. It's not that difficult of a role to sing compared to Elphaba.

I must be in the minority because I loved Emma when I saw her Maureen and thought she was incredible?? But I didn't exactly see her late in her run in Rent either, though... so.

They already had an actress like that in the 1st national tour play lead Elphaba in 2007 and she was also the standby through most of 2006. It would have been better if she had played Nessarose. She shrieked way too much when playing Elphaba and had trouble keeping up with the melody.

I've never seen Emma Hunton perform, but now I'm actually intrigued to see her.

The first national tour is coming to LA this December, and it'll be my first time seeing Wicked (don't judge). I hope Nick Adams stays as Fiyero & I have a really good Elphaba as my first Emma Hunton Will Join Wicked 1st National Tour

I actually enjoy Emma Hunton very much. She was a great Maureen in RENT at New World Stages, though I do think she has the tendency to shout a bit. She's definitely going to have to be extra careful about not damaging her voice with this, but I'm anxious to see what she'll do with the role.

Wow. Thanks, wood2burluvr. I've always liked her and was planning on catching the tour but this thread has opened my eyes. I am gonna tell all my friends about this. What would we do without you.

I've seen Emma as Young Cosette, Natalie, and Maureen. I'd LOVE to see her as Elphaba.

No trollin', OP. No trollin'.

I think Emma is fabulous and one heck of an actress. I wish her nothing but the best and hope she comes though LA next year in the role. I know I'm in the minority, but the last tour (with Mamie Parris) was the worst interpretation I've seen. I'd love to see Emma take a shot at it.

Emma is a freaking star. The OP is a bitter jerkface who obviously lost out on a role because of Emma.

The girl hasn't even started performing the role yet and people are already butchering her online?
Mature. Very mature.

You guys make it seem like this is the first cast announcement that people have bashed just based on their previous performances. Move on.

I don't know how she is doing in her career at the moment but I thought she was really great in the NEXT TO NORMAL TOUR. I still remember how hilariously she delivered the "Portland" one-liner. She is my favourite Natalie and I've seen the show 10 times with various casts (on tour, Broadway and a couple of productions in Australia).

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I saw her as Natalie in N2N and thought she was better than Jen and Meghann. Not a fan of Wicked, but I may buckle down and see it for her.

I liked Emma in Spring Awakening, but she doesn't take care of her voice. She is not going to be a long running Elphaba.
