Did anyone else see the performance of the cast of the UK tour of FAME on ITV's Alan Titchmarsh show this afternoon - even better than the performance on The One Show a couple of weeks ago. Jodie Steele's vocals are seriously awesome. (For those who have ITV Player, it's about 55 minutes into the show.)

Really excited about seeing this in Wimbledon on Friday!

The fact they have set this version today with IPads and Mobile Phones and new orchestrations etc is idiotic. Fame has been and will always be an 80s brand, a recognisable 80s brand. This feels like its gonna be Rent Remixed

To be honest, SADM, I've not even thought about that aspect of the show. Listening to Jodie sing, everything else fades away for me - her voice is mind-blowing. She's a superstar in the making.

That choreography is hideous. Her voice is fine, nothing special.

Better than the awful One Show performance but nothing amazing. Hate the new arrangement for the song, and agree, she has a good voice but nothing outstanding.

The production itself looks awful from the photos

The production looks a disaster and has lost the last few aspects the musical had that connected it to the iconic film.

Saw the show tonight and loved it. It"s the first professional production of the show I've ever seen to be honest - only seen amateur shows before but have always loved the score (though was never a fan of the film).

To say Jodie was sensational would be a huge understatement. Her "In LA" had me in tears, it was breathtaking. So blessed to have had the chance to work with this phenomenal talent. she is going to be a massive star.

Hmmmm the film is dark, honest, authentic, beautifully shot. The musical has a bad score (I was in a production of Fame for a long long time as well) and the book is flimsy and disposable and fails to capture the essence of the struggle of these kids. The one thing it still had (at least in the original production) was a link to the 80s, nostalgia. Bringing this up to date (just like the remake of the film) is so pointless, and I'm hoping the book of the musical (talking about the last graduating class from this building) has been changed as well as the song Tyronnes Rap song that was all about urban living in NY in the 80s.

As silly as I think the musical is (though the 88 first ever production at Coconut Grove playhouse was sensational) this update annoys the hell out of me and kills everything that people remember about Fame. The best thing they could have done was take the show back to the 80s production that nailed the feel of fame and the struggle of the kids.

I'm guessing you know Jodie or have worked with her because from what I have heard of her in this she is OK (Loraine from the original cast was the only one I think has ever nailed the role of Carmen). The reviews for Jodie seem to have been mixed as well. Her performance of the title song is lacklustre at best (though to be fair to get the dire reorchesteation of the song does not help).

I will see this at the Lowry as Fame kick started my career but I can tell already I'm going to hate it.

I don't need too, Fame has been lousy for years and the quality has got worse and worse, i don't think for a second this will be any better, ive heard plenty of audio clips from this production and it sounds pretty bad. The set is ugly and messy and from the reviews the acting has again taken a back seat to dance. As i said i have a very close connection to this show and i will always check it out but i just wish they would take it back to the production and casting quality that actually made this a great night out.

SADM - I can understand how you're close to the show and will have your own feelings about whether it should b "updated" or not, etc. I have to be honest that side of things did not bother me one way or the other. I agree there are huge flaws in the show - VERY little character development, etc. But I do like the songs a lot.

And yes, I do know Jodie. She blew me away when I saw her as Mimi in RENT and Iris in BARE last year so I got in touch with her as I desperately wanted her to record vocals for my album. She was astonishing in the studio - such a rich texture and so many colours to her voice, even when she's belting.

I'll admit I only went to see FAME because Jodie was in it - and she was seriously awesome IMO. And I'm not the only one who thought so, as the reviews below make clear:

"The stand out performance of the evening came from Jodie Steele as Carmen Diaz, whose voice soared above and beyond those of her peers. Her character was believable, her energy was constant and her movement was excellent."
ALASTAIR FREDERICK – “SOSOGAY.CO.UK”

"The real drama however is provided by Jodie Steele as the feisty Carmen. Steele’s edgy, confrontational style coupled with a soaring rock belt give real power to Carmen’s trajectory, doomed as it may be and blunts the saccharine edge that threatens to overpower the finale."
PAUL VALE - "THE STAGE"

"Carmen is a tricky role to play as her diva-ish attitude can make her unlikeable, but Steele does a fine job and certainly makes a huge impression during the final moments of ‘In LA’. I have no idea how anybody could belt like that eight times a week."
ANDREW TOMLINS - "WEST END FRAME"

The show is not selling well. other BKL shows are keeping this show running. He wanted a west end transfer for the show. That isnt going to happen.
