"In All About Eve Margo complains a out the stage door fans. Clearly it's always been an issue. Just back then no one has cameras and you could guard your image better"

I can't imagine that any Broadway performer does not understand that anything they say or do at stage door could wind up on youtube clip and therefore would be on their best behavior at all times.

I do find it mildly fascinating how people know which performers do not like to stage door, but that doesn't seem to inspire people to avoid them. There's always anecdotes of, "I heard that, too, but then when I met her..." and I always wonder, if you know someone doesn't like something, why not leave them alone? "

IMO - I think when people find out that some performer does not come out and sign at stage door very often they usually assume they don't like this ritual but if they do come out then they feel they are OK with it after that particular performance.

Why should they be if they truly just don't care?

"I honestly think Broadway took its cues for preview pricing from StubHub, etc., and it is going to solve the stage door with Vegas as an example. Want to meet the performer after the show? We sell 25 VIP tickets per show for people to meet the stars... get in line, we'll take the picture and you can download it from the URL on the card, you pose, say hi, they sign your Playbill and one other item maximum, and keep the line moving. "

Broadway tickets are expensive enough and that would really be a bad move IMO. People just need to understand actors don't have to do this and just appreciate those who are willing to do it. Actors can exit thru another exit so if they really don't want to do this it can be avoided. The only thing I would request is the guy at the stage door informs people that someone has already left and will not be there so they are not waiting for no reason. This should be done when they know certain actors are not going to sign at all or rarely.
