I don't remember it well (I was taking Vicodin for a bad accident I was in earlier that week), but I took my friend to her first Broadway show ever, the 2008 Gypsy. Despite her always making sure I knew that she was not a big fan of musicals, she went and had a marvelous time. I don't always like to see shows with others because I don't like to worry about what they are thinking, but getting to experience that with her was really special. A few years later, I took my, then, twelve year old cousin to see Nice Work if You Can Get It and she was beaming the entire time. Being able to experience that rush is fantastic.
"I've never encountered such religiously, you know, loyal fans as Broadway musical theater fans. It's amazing."

Thanks for posting everyone. I am loving reading these! :) JBradshaw, I too, remember seeing Bebe perform All That Jazz on TV and I was totally electrified.
A few more hours to get your name in the hat! xoxo

Seeing the original Sweeney Todd at the Uris, while tagging along with my dad the shrink (the APA used to have their meetings at the Waldorf around Christmastime). From the first shriek of the factory whistle to the final bone-chilling strings, I was rapt. I remember talking later in the week with some other shrinks and shrinks' wives who found the material "distasteful" (haha) and thinking how provincial they seemed (yes, the pretentious teen from Ohio was already condescending to his elders.)
My High School trip to NY for the World's Fair in 1964. My friend and I loved Barbra Streisand but it was impossible to get tickets. We hung around the Winter Garden and during an intermission we walked in with the crowd, grabbed playbills and joined the standing room audience for the second act of Funny Girl. Unforgettable. She signed our playbills at the stage door too. Wonder if she would have if she knew we snuck in.
My most amazing theater memories were seeing Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch in A Little Night Music on closing night. I blew all my savings to buy a premium seat and fly from Miami. That was the first time I saw Stephen Sondheim in person. All of my idols in one room, performing one of my favorite scores. It was just a religious experience being in that theater that night. Definitely worth every penny. I then got to meet Elaine Stritch at the NY Philharmonic's Company concert, and tell her about it, and got an awesome picture with her. Those two memories linked together make up for a night (or two) I will NEVER forget.
Congrats to ARTMAN! Thanks everyone for obliging me! Merry Christmas! ARTMAN I will message you! xo
