"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
she is so underrated. Her and Grace Kelly are my faves
Her and Liz Taylor are very similiar. Both were cute kids who started early with iconic roles, both were in influential roles as sexy teens and young adults both were amazing actresses in ground breaking films. Both were among the most beautiful women of their time Both were gossip rag favorites Both married and divorced and remarried their loves though Liz's wasnt involved in her death Both were nominated for multiple Oscars

You mean a "I'm a good little, good little, good little, good little girl" freakout or a full blown: "How many bullets are left Chino? Enough to kill you..and YOU!...and YOU! ALL OF YOU!!! You all killed him! And my brother, and Riff. Not with bullets, or guns, with HATE!! Well now I can kill, too, because now I. HAVE. HATE!!!! freakout?
"The most complicated aspect of Rebel Without a Cause, and the thing that makes it seem daring even today, is its sexuality. Ray was bisexual (as was Dean) and he was sleeping with both Wood and Mineo while they shot the film. He brings Wood's beauty into full flowering and gets a simple, touching performance from her (though she's overwrought in her first scene). With Mineo, Ray craftily put together a portrait of a tormented gay teenager. Stern's script tells us that Plato is searching for a father figure in Jim (and Plato's famed locker photo of Alan Ladd shows that he wants a Shane-type father, not a lover), but the way Mineo looks at Dean leaves no modern audience in doubt as to what his real feelings are."

Interesting reading on Rebel. I liked Natalie's performance too, but feel like the film left a lot more unsaid in the character of Judy than of Plato and Jim. We get to know Jim's parents and Plato's absent parents are used to indicate Plato being unreliable in telling the truth about himself. We see Judy's parents but mostly her father who perhaps sees her in a very different light. I think the film has to walk a thin line in trying to show that Judy's father is attracted to her and really hates himself for it with Judy wondering what she even did wrong. It speaks for her rebellion. I always found her family's absence in the third act to be really sad. Plato at least had his nanny show up. But I still loved Natalie's performance and it was a well-deserved Oscar nomination. I have to say even as a lover of Rebel Without a Cause, the character of Judy on paper, and I say this having read the script, in the hands of a lesser actress could have gone wrong in a million different ways.
I also remember reading some indirect quote from Dean telling Mineo to have Plato look at Jim the way Jim looks at Judy- so there's your subtext.
