I would be wary of the on-stage seats, just FYI. I seem to recall (I didn't see it in the West End) that they were literally side on, and there were two levels, and that on both there was no rake, so unless you were in the front row, you could risk being able to see barely anything. They may be changing the design, but the view might not be great.
I've managed to get second row centre stalls for late January. It's not that these are revelatory productions - Rylance irritates me, and his portrayal of Olivia is all manic, no depth - and I didn't love this but since the wonderful Sam Barnett has been recast from Sebastian to Viola, I'm keen to see him do that, because he will be amazing.
And I'm a big fan of much of the rest of the cast, including lovely Colin Hurley, as well as the recasts of Angus Wright (from Roger Lloyd Pack) and Kurt Egyiawan. Thankfully the terrible Johnny Flynn (whose idea of playing a woman is to put on a high-pitched, grating voice) has been re-cast with Joseph Timms, who is a far better actor!
Now I've just got to get the time off work and book flights over the Atlantic... Cripes.
For those of y'all who missed out on the $25 orchestra seats (like me!) I dropped by the Belasco box office on Saturday, and was told that the $25 onstage seats would likely be available this week. He told me that Telecharge would sell them, as well as the box office. Unfortunately, two different Telecharge agents have told me that the $25 onstage seats would be available exclusively through the box office - one of them even denied that onstage seating existed. *sigh* Telecharge sucks, yo.
What is the Twitter "address" to look for announcements? I stopped by the box office earlier this week and was told there are no more "down front" $25 seats.
mamaleh: by "down front" the BO agent may have been referring to the first two rows of the orchestra, where a limited number of $25 seats were available -- and I've heard quickly gobbled up. obviously, that's not the same as the on stage seating ...
A few weeks back, I looked into the $25 seats and everything I saw was for extreme side orchestra seats...and since the box office wasn't open yet at the time, you had to get them online. With ridiculous service charges they were about the same as TDF, so I passed on them...not sure what you missed or by how much, but there was nothing great and it was a lot more than $25 with all the fees.
I'm pretty sure that the $25 orchestra seats were Row B center and something like Row M over to the side on house left for every performance. At least that's what came up for the random handful of performances that I checked into when the tickets went on sale initially. When the new version of Telecharge was cooperating you could see them blocked off when you changed the pricing options. All of those are gone though for Richard and there's a smattering left for 12th Night (I just looked and got random seats in Row M for Wednesday matinees starting in November).
I'm sure there are still $25 mezzanine seats and of course all of the balcony left. Sadly no word yet on the $25 on stage seating.
I was really surprised that Richard III never plays a single Wednesday matinee in that long and convoluted schedule. My only chance to see it, so alas I will miss it.
Question about the seats on the stage: does anybody know this: the benches with cushions, as per description on the site -- do they have backs? that's going to be a decider for me and my party I think!!!
Thanks Frogs Fan - I am sure you are right - I just talked to the Telecharge guy and he anticipated my question, and said -- no backs on the benches. Also that stage seats can be bought either in person or online, but not on the phone.
So I went ahead and bought Mezzanine seats for Nov 9, the night before it opens.
I'm surprised they are even bothering to do rush tickets considering how many $25 tickets have been available all over the house since tickets went on sale. This is most likely a ploy to get rid of the remaining stage seats and box seats that they couldn't sell for $135 or whatever the face value of orchestra is now.
