I could be wrong, but I'm thinking this could be a connoisseur's show. That said, i wanted the $25 seats, so I bought mine already. Hotel prices in NYC are crazy. Maybe stay in Brooklyn?

What do you mean by a Connoisseur's show? That only people who love Rylance and/or Shakespeare will be buying this in advance (we are huge Rylance fans)?

We're looking at November 2nd, but I guess the marathon is that weekend, which is why hotels are crazy.

Brooklyn or Queens might work. Have to see if any of the Starwood properties are taking points reservations. I guess that's why we collect 'em.

Thanks

I called Telecharge this AM and they have "no information" on the onstage seats. "Perhaps when the box office opens we will have more information", but they do not know when the box office will be opening.

The box office opens on September 17th. I walked by yesterday and they have all of the poster cases and doors decked out already. No marquee yet though.

FYI, 2nd row Orchestra Center (row B) are where some of the $25 orchestra seats are featured.

Not a lot of tickets in that row left for November but late December/January seems to have more availability. Just got mine for December 30th. A friend from the cast told me otherwise would have no idea.

Good luck!

No, WeeThomas, it's not a good weekend for hotel bargains because of the race. Priceline's Express deals has a few reasonably priced 4-star properties. One in MTE for @267, one in ESB for $247 and one in CPS (which turned out is the Renaissance 57) for $281. If you use promo code bigcity6 you get 10% off those prices which makes them a little easier to take.

For cheaper hotels- the national chains have cheaper options in Long Island city-4 stops from times square

They just started selling stage seats for $137!

saw that ... thanks!

I was a bit surprised by the price; I thought I'd read these also were going to be $25. Not sure how I feel about shelling out that kind of scratch just for the "exciting pre-show ritual of actors getting dressed on the stage."

For those considering on-stage seating, be aware (per Telecharge):

1) Seating will be on benches with cushions.
2) Once you are in your seat, you may not leave except during intermission.
3) You must be in your seat no later than five minutes prior to curtain and no late seating will be permitted. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4) All belongings will remain with you at your seat, no large bags, luggage or packages will be permitted.
5) Come early and enjoy the exciting preshow ritual of the company getting dressed onstage!

And if you use the new Telecharge site, these seats don't show up on the seat map for you to choose. They pick these for you and the locations they assign are just listed underneath the map as if you had chosen them. It was quite confusing at first.

So if your rear and your bladder are agreeable, it should be an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

it's frustrating that there's no seat map or explanation of where seats are located. the website generated seats A/1-3 for me when I queried ... I have no idea whether that is a good choice or an oblique angle from which to view the performance.

first-world problems, I know.

Looking at a picture of the show, it looks like the seats will be in boxes on the sides, facing straight to the stage, similar to the Spring Awakening setup.

What's shocking is that they have the nerve to charge $137 per ticket to sit 3 hours on a bench with a cushion. At the Globe, these seats are no more than $85 at the box office. Ridiculous.

And you complain, when throughout the rest of the house, they are selling 250 seats a night at $25?

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Not sure how I feel about shelling out that kind of scratch just for the "exciting pre-show ritual of actors getting dressed on the stage."

If this is your first time seeing this company, I would suggest more conventional seats. The experience is very intense, and can enjoyed even from the cheapest seats.

It's our fifth time seeing Shakespeare's Globe, and I'm splurging for the stage seats because I know that every time I see them, it's among the most memorable Shakespeares I've ever seen, as well as among the most memorable theater experiences I've ever had. We're just trying to figure out how closely together we want to do them: a matinee and an evening, or separated by a day or so?

But go!

Joey: thanks for the advice!

I've seen the Globe once before. Maybe I'll do the $25 seats for Twelfth Night (which I've only seen once, years ago), and do the stage seats for R3 (which I've seen many times).

My other half is a CPA, and I have to choose my battles, if you know what I mean. Rylance's 12th Night and Richard III to play Broadway...

I was going to do the on-stage seating for Twelfth Night but was afraid we'd both end up being squirmy distractions to the cast and audience. I really couldn't pass up $25 seats and scored a couple in Orchestra Row B. What an incredible deal!

So that's good news.

Moviefreak2389--thank you so much for the tip about the 2nd-row center!

I just scored $35 tickets (not $25) for both Richard III and Twelfth Night for the week between Christmas and New Year's--thanks to your advice!

And they're 2nd-row CENTER! I am VERY grateful to you!

FYI, Twelfth Night is selling out much faster than Richard III. If you want to find those inexpensive tickets, look for them now for late January--and if you find them, buy them now!
