My local community theater is putting on Into The Woods this winter but auditions are very soon. I would just about die to be Little Red Riding Hood and I've already picked a song. I just need to know if it's the right song. Would the beginning of "My Friend The Dictionary" from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (from "I saved a chair for my dad" to "more than the friends I have made in school") be apropos for Red? If not, could you suggest some non-overdone choices that would be more appropriate?
Ooo I love it! I did Spelling Bee last year and I just did Into the Woods. :) I think that's a great song choice. "My Friend the Dictionary" is sort of a story-telling kind of song which is a lot like Little Red's "I Know Things Now". And Olive and Little Red are both sweet, young characters. Plus, Spelling Bee is not a hugely known show so odds of someone else doing it are lower. Overall, I think it's a good song choice and I'd just suggest you add a little more sassiness and confidence to parts of the song, which isn't exactly true to the character of Olive, but is exactly what someone needs for Little Red. I wish you the best of luck on your audition! You're gonna have a lot of fun with Into the Woods! :)
Thanks. Now I just need to find a good monologue. I was thinking Elizabeth's monologue from Catholic School Girls but if anyone has any other ideas for a good monologue for Little Red, I'd love to hear them.
I think that's a great choice! For your monologue, go comedic (I'm not all that familiar with the one you mentioned) but you want to get a bubbly/cute personality across in the audition.
It's the one where she's teaching little kids about Jesus, Mary, the saints et al. and the most memorable recurring line is "Make sure to bow your head every time you say Jesus's name or else you get a black spot on your soul"
