Does anyone know if Jeremy will be performing the matinee shows now that he is doing Smash? I'm seeing the matinee on August 22nd and I really want to see him in it!!!

Every week is different and sometimes he doesn't even know in advanced.
This is Wednesday, so there is a definite chance you could see Cory Cott instead, who is great.

My guess is that he won't be in. They usually film during the day. He said he will be in the weekend shows.

Chances are you'll probably get Corey, but he has definitely proven himself. I think you will love it either way. Have fun!

I saw it last Friday and he was in, and amazing. I know my reply is in no way helpful, but i only come to NYC every two years, and I had to post b/c I just saw Newsies last week!

We saw it last night (Friday) and Corey Cott was playing the part of Jack. Let me tell you that he brought down the house. Phenomenal singer, great actor - can't wait to see what's next for him.

At first I was a bit disappointed that Jordan wasn't performing but then I heard Cott's voice and I was fine with it.

Whether you will see Jordan or Cott, you will see a show that will blow your mind.

Enjoy!

Seeing the show on Tuesday the 28th, really hoping to see Jordan after being impressed by him at the Heathers concert at Joe's Pub. I know it's unlikely that anyone would have info on whether he'd be in that night, but if one does, I'd really appreciate it. I'm taking my mom who is also a fan.

Corey Cott may be wonderful but some people do actually want to see the full time performer who was reviewed and cast in the role initially.

I just get frustrated by the animosity towards people that sometimes pops up on this board toward those who have the desire to see a specific performer, especially someone who has been recognized for giving a great performance. If Jordan is out regularly due to his filming schedule for Smash and requires an alternate, that alternate's scheduled performances should be public, as is done for example with EVITA re: Elena Roger.

I understand where you're coming from, but there is a difference with the Eva stand by and Jack Kelly. Elena's stand by is because the role is vocally demanding. Jessica and Christina have a set achedule and go on so Elena doesn't blow out her voice, as documented in Patti's book when she originated the role.

Jeremy's case is different. It seems as though Corey is only the stand by right now because of Jeremy's schedule right now. Although it would would be great for Corey to have a set schedule, it just isn't possible. Jeremy has said he doesn't always know when he will be out. Sometimes shooing schedules are unpredictable and sometimes he is just exausted as he said in an article in the times. I know it sucks when people cometo see him, but there is not much that can be done. Newsies is a great show, that I'm sure will continue to full capacity with or without Jeremy.

DISNEY must not be too happy with JJ and his schedule
(though they had to have some idea it would be crazy for him).
Harvey and others are really pushing the new kid and singing his praises.

Luv2Shop, I think that's pretty ridiculous. He's "exhausted"? It's Broadway, not regional theatre. If you can't handle the demands of your role, then set a schedule you can handle and make that available to the public. I don't see why that's so hard. Shooting schedules are much more predictable than you'd imagine, he's not getting calls at 12AM on Monday night that he'll be working all day Tuesday. Also, you say in one breath that the role of Evita is too demanding and that's why an alternate is required, and then go on to say that Jeremy must be "exhausted" and thus unable to meet the demands of playing Jack and that's why it's excusable for him to be out. If Jack is such a demanding role that he cannot play it 8 shows a week, then it isn't all that different from Elena's situation.

There is no difference between EVITA and this. If you're going to have an alternate, then the schedule should be publicly available. The ONLY difference is Disney does not bill JJ above the title, which does not entitle one to a refund should he be out. To me, that necessitates the need for a public alternate schedule further because if one does go to see him specifically in a role he was nominated for a Tony for and he is out for whatever reason, there is no obligation for the box office to issue a refund.

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/14/smash-schedule-prompts-jeremy-jordan-to-depart-newsies-on-sept-4/

This article goes on to say that he worked three 14 hour days and then proceeded to do 4 show of Newsies in 48 hours. I'm pretty sure that's grounds for exhaustion...

ILuv2Shop, how exactly does that negate the idea of him creating a schedule that works for him and having that information be public? The answer is: it does not.

But his shooting schedule probably isn't the same every single week. So it'd be pretty impossible for him to designate certain performances ahead of time he will be missing, a la Evita. It is not a set schedule. Corey may go on 4 times In a week and 1 or 2 another. That's all I'm trying to say, not that he comes Into work one day and then finds out he's working 14 hours.

All I wanted to do was give my opinion, if you disagree, that is your choice, I'm not continuing to fight back and fourth with you...

He'll probably be doing a lot of the shows within the next 3 weeks considering it's his final weeks with the show. My guess is he would miss the Wednesday show and maybe the one on Monday?

@Kelly2 -- he probably does know his shoot schedule in advance, and also how exhausted he will likely be (thus leaving the show), but he still wants to try his best to be in the show for people like yourself who are passionate about seeing one performer. He’s leaving the show because it’s become impossible for him to do both.

Would you rather he pull out completely and immediately? Then you’ll know you’re seeing Corey for sure.

Jeremy certainly doesn't want to miss shows and he isn't missing them because he's exhausted. I've seen him do shows exhausted as well as sick to the point where he should be resting. I've seen him come into Newsies so tired and still put on a great show. He comes out to stage door 90% of the time to sign for fans and take pictures which isn't part of the job requirement.
Just because Smash sets a schedule it doesn't mean it won't be changed at the last minute or run longer than originally scheduled. Jeremy was shooting all day yesterday, he didn't stop till after 2am. He has said he will always do weekend shows.
Corey is not his alternate, he is the standby, I don't know where this alternate stuff got started, but it isn't true. That's why there is no set schedule.
He has a very full schedule right now and he's also getting married. He's trying his best to film Smash and perform in Newsies until he leaves on September 4.
Jeremy doesn't want to disappoint the fans and if he knew for sure he would be able to come into Newsies every night he would say so and he would be there every performance, but it just isn't so.

JohnyBroadway - Thank you, I didn't know that. It's strange considering they should probably know the job description of an alternate. At least I know where it came from now.

Jennifer, while your stalker photo with Jeremy does stab your credibility in the foot and your unwillingness to even read the thread to see where the alternate label comes from is discouraging, I'll acknowledge your comments anyway.

Maybe he should focus his energy on performing in as many of his scheduled shows as possible and not on signing autographs for the mental defectives waiting behind the barricade. I could give 2 sh*ts about whether or not he's able to sign every Playbill and pose for every photo, I and many others would just like to experience his well-reviewed performance and see the star advertised when we pay quite a bit of money for tickets to the show. That is not unreasonable and wanting a schedule when it's clear that he is aware he will be out frequently is also not unreasonable. I'm glad that you've assigned yourself the job of being his chief defender and publicist but I'm sure even Jeremy himself, being a theatre fan and being fairly new to being someone who attracts your kind of "fan", would understand the desire to see performers in the roles they are becoming known for.
