The Tony Award-winning production of Bette Midler's Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which celebrated its one-year anniversary on Broadway March 20, will play its final performance at the Palace Theatre June 24.
When it closes, the musical will have played 23 previews and 526 performances.
The U.S. national tour of Priscilla, according to a May 16 press announcement, will begin in Minneapolis at The Orpheum Theatre on Jan. 8, 2013.
The tour's coming here to Seattle next year. Given how much I hated the show in London, I know what I'll be avoiding. Most of the other septics I knew in the UK loathed it as well, so not surprising that it didn't do well here.
Been expecting this news for a while. I think 15 months for a Broadway show is not bad. Given its high running costs, it will make a huge loss but nonetheless it surely can't be considered a complete flop.
Hopefully there will not only be a US tour but one here in the UK too before long.
What next for the wonderful Tony Sheldon I wonder?
I think he has been involved in readings/workshops for the new musical "Ever After" which is due for a Broadway bow next year. Sierra Boggess has also been involved. This doesn't mean he will be involved in the actual production but it could be a possibility.
It was a flop, always said on here, it would of done $100k more if they had the shoe outside like in London. What surprised me that no one was talking about it over in New York on the other board.
What next for the wonderful Bette Midler I wonder?
Never thought it would have a very long run on Broadway as just not their kind of thing. Was a massive risk to take it there at all. Also, the changes they made to appeal to a US audience took some of the heart out of the show that worked well in Oz and here.
In the circumstances, I don't think a 15 month run makes it an out and out flop but given its a very expesnive show to stage, a financially flop certainly.
