OK - so I know we don't really NEED another JCS recording (I have at least 5 different ones) or Evita - but just curious, has there been anything said about new recordings for the two revivals? Considering how they've been well received, in times past, they would record a new album somewhat quickly after the official opening.
I would think one would be done of JCS, but I don't know about Evita. I know that Ricky Martin is a draw, but they do have the (2006?) London Cast Recording, which this revival is based on. Elena Roger is on that recording, so they may just keep it the way it is with Evita.

If they do a new recording of Evita, I'm hoping that they at least release the London Roger recording, with the re-recorded vocals of Martin, Ceveris, von Essen, and whoever is playing the mistress. I hope that they just don't record one or two songs with Martin, tack those on to the end of the London recording, and call it a day (like RUG did with the Lee Mead "Joseph..." where they just recorded "Any Dream Will Do" and the Pharoah's new song).
As for JCS, even though I have more than enough recordings, a new one would be welcome, since they didn't record the 2000 revival.
I do know that they have been playing the 2006 cast recording of Evita outside the box office. However, since Elena Roger is the only person to have been in both productions, they are only playing songs that Evita sings.

I would love a new JCS recording. I think it would be neat if Sh-K-Boom recorded a complete double disc album and then also released a limited pressing of vinyl records to emulate the original release of the concept album similar to what they did with the new Broadway cast recording of Hair. I'm worried that the box office sales have not been strong enough and I sort of feel like IF there were plans to record it they would have announced it already.
Cats -- I've wondered how ticket sales were going from JCS - the grosses look good, don't they? Also it didnt seem like they had as big an advertising campaign as Evita did (could be wrong on that, it just didn't seem like it) Would think that making over $600-$700 grand a week for a show the size of JCS would be pretty good
chernjam, from what I understand they've been papering a lot of performances and if I'm reading the chart correctly it seems like Superstar had the biggest box office dip in audience attendance than any other Broadway show this week. They made more money this week though so I assume that means there were more paid for seats which might be a good sign. Updated On: 4/4/12 at 06:12 PM
Opening night was the week before last, which at least explains the increase in the gross for JCS despite the capacity drop. In addition, wasn't their top ticket $99 during previews? It would have switched to the normal price last week.
I would love cast recordings of both of these productions, especially considering how they have the seal of approval by the creators. And yes, there have been many before, but not nearly as many as for a show like Les Mis.
Re EVITA - I do love the 2006 recording but it is true, it is not a record of the revival. The tempo is too slow and doesn't match what happened live; it was recorded before the cast had even done the previews and it's obvious that not everyone is comfortable with their roles; and it was also a rushed job, apparently. I also hate the fact that it's highlights only, and some of the choices made are bizarre - why on earth cut the ending of 'I'd Be Surprisingly...' which has the tango instrumental? Considering how ALW reorchestrated everything, you'd think they would have wanted to have a record of it. Tim Rice said the highlights-only choice was ridiculous; RUG defended itself by saying they were trying to target the mass market and that supermarkets would only stock single CDs. A bit short-sighted IMHO... There's a Facebook page out there you can join to register your interest in one getting made - Michael Cerveris says the producers were noticing and keeping an eye on it, so it might be worth joining.
I've been following the various Twitters of the cast members, and Rachel Potter posted this photo back in February. Could this be the recording of the new cast album? Evita girls in the studio
I agree with whoever mentioned that the London 2006 recording was a bit of a "disaster" -- why they would only record a "highlights" version when Lloyd Webber had re-orchestrated everything seemed bizarre...
I'm hopeful they will record the new one with Ricky...
And I do enjoy JCS enough that I'd buy a new cast recording
Oh I do hope so. Apart from Elena and Ricky Martyn (who are great in their roles), the rest of the cast of Evita are so talented that they deserve to have one, Michael Cerveris, Max Von Essen, Rachel Potter, etc.
Would love one for JCS as well, thought there aren't many big "names" in it.
