The opening to Saturday Night Live is great New York jazz-fusion.

THIS? Only trying to equal that. And no one plays sax like Lenny Pickett, so don't even try.

^ The sax is buried in the original concept album orchestrations, which Des made a big deal out of saying they were replicating for this show.

I'm not that old... was this really a necessary revival. I love how its going to do battle with Godspell. Must be an election year...

Actually,I think it is a fine time for a revival of JCS. I applaud them trying to go a slightly different route. Just wish they had better leads.

Why didn't they crazy-cast? This show hardly has the controversial edge it did way back when. Why not cast Jesus as a lesbian? A drag-queen Mary Magdalene? Or a senior citizen cast?

Something outrageous..it's just so dull without some kind of real edge.

Looks like they were going for an American Idol reference, which makes sense and is an entirely appropriate approach, but the representation looks visually bland. Are the dancers that dimly lit in the actual performance? Does the choreography get interesting? Nice swing, but missed the ball completely.

Why not cast Jesus as a lesbian?

Check out the studio cast recording from 1994 with Amy Ray as Jesus and Emily Saliers as Mary Magdalene (The Indigo Girls).

I'm a huge Superstar fan and actually thought that clip looked fantastic!
