I am from California and I usually visit NYC each year over The Tony Weekend. (Sometimes I get the Opportunity to Attend--Sometimes NOT!) Usually, by November the Tony Comittee has met made their determinations on shows that have opened already and announced the date of the awards. Of course, last year they announced the date and the cut-off date for Eligibility--but no venue.

My questions is--why did this not happen at their recent meeting? Does anyone out there have any idea why this process has been delayed this year?

Thanks, in advance, for any insight any of you have out there.

It says June. The specific Sunday, I'm sure, is being confirmed with Madison Square Garden.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Yeap! I caught that article when it came out--but still no word on the actual date.
Thanks for responding CapnHook!

It actually has very little to do with the Tony Committee and much more to do with MSG secondarily (as CapnHook notes), and CBS primarily. CBS is really the one that dictates when the ceremony will be -- the League gets input of course, and venue availability matters too, but they're all pretty much at the mercy of CBS.

Most people I've spoken to believe it will be on June 10th, though there are rumors floating that CBS wants the 17th. If that's true and it's still being resolved, it may explain why a final announcement has not yet been made.

I had heard that they were looking to change the date--also. Now, it all makes a little more sense--I actually forgot the Network Input on this!! Thanks
