I was dying to see this show again, and I truly wanted to love Bernardette and Elaine, but I was missing Catherine Zeta Jones and Angela Lansbury the whole time. I wish I'd get the Peters/Stritch "hype" like other BWWers, but I thought some of the other members of the cast actually stole the show. Desiree is suppossed to be middle-aged. Bernardette is 62yo, she might look a little younger, but Catherine Zeta Jones is only 40yo, so the show worked a lot better for me woth CZJ. Not only because of her age, but because of her sexiness and glamour. Bernardette's weak baby speaking/singing voice was just not effective for me. Anyways, this role, as we all know, wasn't written for a singer, so her singing wasn't exactly my problem. Her "Send in the Clowns" was her best moment in the show. But her way of delivering lines was lackluster to me, especially after seeing CZJ and remembering her sultry, rich voice reciting those lines. I can't even start with Elaine Stritch, but I feel that judging her performance is just pointless. I couldn't do that...I don't think she is aware of the fact she is on a Broadway stage.
With that said, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka and Aaron Lazar were good.
Alexander Hanson is so comfortable on stage! A great actor and singer.
Erin Davie is just great in this, a great character she got to play. Wonderful!
Ramona Mallory, I enjoyed her character a lot, this time even more. She was the most interesting and probably the best singer out of the leading characters.
And the best for last, the real star of the show with the most amazing number...Leigh Ann Larkin stole every scene she was in. The true star of the evening in my opinion, she brought the house down with "The Miller's Son".
The rest of the ensemble also stood out, Kevin David Thomas has a wonderful voice and is very handsome. The same goes for the rest of the ensemble, some of the female voices were truly gorgeous...Sara Jean Ford, Betsy Morgan, Jayne Paterson, Karen Murphy and Erin Stewart. The men were also outstanding: Stephen Buntrock, Bradley Dean and Kevin Vortmann. Keaton Whittaker has a great voice and her acting was very good.
So all these people wondering why the show didn't open with Peters...well, the answer is this...Catherine was much better!

Muscle, you shouldn't use this forum to just be a dick because you can. You're one of those ungrateful "fans" who only bashes a perfectly good show so people can stop 1. pitying and/or 2. disliking you because you're an attention whore who didn't get enough love from mommy and daddy. Sure, start a backlash against me, but you're a douchebag.

These comments are odd, because not one week ago it seemed like you hadn't even seen the show before...
Elaine Stritch didn't seem to know she was on stage? Isn't THAT the epitome of acting on stage???

I suppose Glynis Johns had quite the sultry voice, too...
I saw CZJ and while I have not seen BP I cant attest that CZJ performance was one amplified as if to fill the Hollywood Bowl, not the Walter Kerr. She was great but left much to be desired in such a well-written script.
I spent a good three months of my life putting up with muscle's antics, trying to make a friend, hanging out with him, going to see shows, etc. A lotto buddy, y'know?
We went to see Fela! and the shmuck spent the entire show bitching about how he hated it. I'd keep saying 'this is amazing, shh' but he'd just keep going.
If you don't answer the phone the first time he calls, watch out. He'll blow up your phone.
He's either got issues or the maturity level of a 5 year old, or both. I found that telling it like it is is and then completely ignoring him after that was the best way to get rid of him. In his case, ignoring the problem really is the best solution.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Mama does not want to be pierced....so have at it. I'll watch from the sidelines.
I really didn't thing that I'd put Muscle in the same category as Bryan: posters to stay away from.

Theatre4, I saw CZJ in it, I don't know why you assume it was my 1st time seeing the show. Wrong...again. I'm really not ageist, she looks younger than her age, but I don't find her sexy AT ALL. I don't find the appeal I found in Jones.
