I can't imagine anybody running to get tickets to anything starring Vanessa Hudgens. As someone pointed out she is mostly known for High School Musical which was years ago. And she was mediocre in that at best.

I imagine she'll sell as many tickets as the girl who sings "Call Me Maybe." She definitely doesn't have the star power that Zac Efron was able to develop by being in a mixture of hits and more artistic projects. I think he'd sell out a show easily, her? Not so much. Maybe she gave a decent audition.........

Hudgens was fantastic in GIMME SHELTER, showing her range and depth as an actor. Here's hoping the producers know what they are doing and she surprises us and does a fantastic job!

I think she should stay away from live theatre. I've never seen her sing a song live well in my life. Worst of all was her performance at the Super Bowl. Vanessa Hudgens trying to play Mimi was the worst attempt lol.

I like Corey Cott. There's much more to him than Newsies lets you in on.

Vanessa should stick to however she made high school musical sound okay in the studio and never let a note slip onstage ever again. Her acting is decent. She's ruining her career by trying to pretend she can be a live theatre performer.

She was really good in Beastly

I've heard Cott numerous times and I just find him banal. I don't think he'll bring anything interesting or different to the part. He's a good replacement.

She'll be better than Leslie Caron vocally, that's for sure. If you haven't listened to her un-dubbed, look it up.

She is only doing the reading. The cast could change. January is a long time from now. However, I am giving her props about venturing into theater again and trying again.

Someone tweeted the complete cast list (for the workshop, I'm assuming). In addition to Hudgens and Cott, it has Victoria Clark as Mamita, Howard McGillin as Honore, and Kate Burton as Aunt Alicia.

From what I understand, Hudgens is attached to the production for its future engagement at the Kennedy Center.

Is this still hoping to come in this season (with Hudgens id assume)?
The Kennedy Center run ends in Feb 2015, so it can make it this season.
Is this considered a revival? Because next season so far is loaded with revivals: On the Town, On the 20th Century, Forum, Side Show, Gigi, The King and I, and (possibly) Dames at Sea.

I also understand from members on the creative team that Hudgens gave one of those come in at the 11th hour, knock-your-socks-off auditions for the project. Looking forward to seeing it.

Hmm, maybe it was the actual cast list for the KC production, then? It was hard to tell. I tried to post the link to the tweet -- it had a photo of a program -- but for some reason Twitter was freezing up on me and I couldn't get the link copied and pasted. I can try it again later.

Gigi is both a great story and a challenging one to bring off today. It might well strike many as BOTH an apologia for trafficking in young women - very young! - AND a give-me-a-break valentine to traditional marital domesticity. What can save it from that - in addition to any innovations the team may supply, innovations aimed at making this apparent quagmire more solid, and which might work and might not; only time will tell - is a clarity that Gaston and Gigi truly adore each other and that the obstacle is the troubling sexual politics of the particular society in which they live. Minnelli, Caron and Jourdan brought that out brilliantly. As of course did Collette. That we first come to know these two people as close friends before there is any glimmer of even flirtation grounds the story in real feeling for both of them.

I'm sorry to hear that some have difficulty with the film. For me it's witty, charming, perfectly cast and navigates well between edgy sophistication and a winking and fatuous opulence.

What time should we estimate for the official casting to come out?

If anyone's looking for a somewhat parallel situation, this board went berserk when it was announced that Corbin Bleu was going into Into The Heights as Usnavi. The world didn't end, and he was actually pretty good.
