I like Barbara but the recent bombardment of everything that is Barbara is a bit much don't you think? I understand she is a legend and has had a wonderful career but she has never completely won me over. Technically she is a brilliant singer but she doesn't put enough emotion to make the songs as powerful as they can be. I recently went to see Ann Hampton Callaway at 54 Below and her whole show was a tribute to Barbara Streisand. It was a bit frustrating because Ann Hampton is a wonderful vocalist and in my opinion a better singer than Barbara.
I understand she is a legend and has had a wonderful career ...
Regardless of what you think of her yourself, doesn't that kind of answer your own question?
So many people today use words like "legend" or "star" or "best ever" when really, they can't remember or consider anything further back than a year or two a the most.
Barbra (note spelling) has been a huge star for (closing in on) fifty years now.
I'm not a mega-fan myself, not remotely, but I can see the reason for the fuss. The problem is that you just don't agree with it and you don't think she deserves it.
But it's there because millions of others have a different opinion and think she's earned it.

Barbra has only written a handful of songs. Any tribute to her is really a tribute to the American Songbook. I'm assuming Ann Hampton Callaway wasn't doing a Babs impersonation in her act, so really you just insulted some of the greatest songs ever written. Regardless of what you think of Barbra, there's no denying that her song selection has most always been First Class.
I saw Ann Hampton Callaway do her Barbra show a year ago January at The Blue Note. So this is not new. If you pay attention during the show, she explains her relationship to Barbra and the reason she is doing the show. Mildred is correct. She in no way even tries to impersonate Babs.
Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.
Never been a fan of Barbra? or other over the top singers like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, their vocal histrionics just wear me out. Frank Sinatra, on the other hand, puts so much feeling into a song, it's almost like getting a lesson on life. I consider Streisand the "anti-Sinatra".
There hasn't been Joe. Just some queen needing to complain about something. I live in the West Coast and even I knew that Ann's show in the East was a tribute to Babs. I am very excited about Babs show out here in the Bowl. And I am hoping that just like NY other tribute shows pop up that weekend so I have the opportunity to listen to those great songs some more. Different strokes for different folks.
I don't know why I post things on this message board because all you bitches do is rip on everyone! God forbid someone misspells something or have an opinion that differs from theirs. Most of you are all bullies that need to spread their misery!
