If LEAP OF FAITH doesn't perform, I really hope the Tonys don't invite SPIDER-MAN now. This is so stupid and childish. And I personally don't think it's clever at all.
It's not like they're going all Julie Andrews pointy little nose in the air or anything. I think it's a funny and brilliant little bit of marketing, actually.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
Ya know what? I'm gonna give out dollar bills to all the people who find this to be some sort of affront. And they can go buy themselves at least a cheap sense of humor.
I was going to bring up Julie Andrews, Matt. At least this was done with humor and levity.
It does seem a bit childish. Sort of like, "Screw you guys, I'm goin' home."
I agree, it sounds like they hired Cartman to do publicity for the show.
On the other hand, I find Cartman to be hilarious. I also think this is pretty damn funny, and will surely get them more attention ... and probably more Tonys at their theatre that day.

So will other derivatives of Tony which aren't listed, such as Antione, Antonia, and Anatoliy be accepted? If not, I'd be pissed if I were named any of those.
Exactly. This is just the sort of thing he would have done. I think it's silly, funny, and pretty clever. Is it possible that those who are so loudly decrying it didn't like Spider-Man in the first place and are looking for another reason to bash it - or do they need SonofRobbieJ's offer to buy a sense of humor?
ghostlight2 has it right. If Bonnie & Clyde, or some other people that board members really liked, was still open and has done this, these people would be posting "Ha! So clever!"
Though I don't agree with this promotion, I still believe Spiderman should've been nominated for best score. Peter and the Starcatcher should've never been nominated for best score...that's just ridiculous.
Many shows have matinee performances on Tony Sunday. No one is missing anything and they still could perform if they are inviting/want to.
It feels very David Merrick. With all the names it reminds me of his Subways critics stunt. This is funny and silly and will generate some buzz with the media. They don't need to be spiteful about anything. Despite all the naysayers they are routinely the highest grossing new show of the season.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
I don't see the big deal with it. It seems pretty harmless and in good humor.
