I was there last night as well through TDF and really enjoyed this piece having missed it off-Broadway. I think it's a real credit to the writing that this production had me both laughing so hard at points and also had me so upset and invested at others. It really covered the whole spectrum of what Jordan was feeling, The cast was all exceptionally good and Glick, Barrie, and Mendez were wonderful. The last moment was gorgeous and I liked how it was directed with real time to watch things happen and it was so honest. Goldberg was hysterical and I would go see her in anything that she does in the future. We were seated in the side rear orchestra so we lost a few moments here and there inside the actual set unit, but overall it was a really wonderful evening and I would recommend this to people in an instant. The message really resonated with me and I would see it again.

P.S. They have a Photo Booth called "The Booth at the Booth" in the basement and it was really fun. Definitely check that out before the show.

I was there tonight after missing it at the Pels, and didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. As a twentysomething single gay man living in New York I very much related to the piece and, like Whizzer, saw many shades of myself in Jordan, both good and bad. I've enjoyed Glick in everything I've seen him in previously but he's really doing some outstanding work here, and I hope he's recognized come Tony time.

I hope I get to return to this production later in the run, even if it's just to relive that final moment--so beautifully done, heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time.

Saw it at the Pels. Loved it. That last moment shook me to my core. Not sure I will see it again. Kind of want to savor the performance I saw and not sure it will hit me the same way a second time around. JMO

I caught this night and pretty much loved everything about it from the really cool set to the excellent performances. Gideon Glick is giving such a strong performance. As a single gay man in my mid-twenties living in NYC, I could deeply relate to the character of Jordan. In fact, I don't think I have ever related this much to a character in a show before. His delivery of the monologue/diatribe that he delivers towards the end of the play about what it is like to be single was so great. The final moment really got to me. I am really hoping Glick gets recognition this awards season, because he is so great in this.

I saw the second performance on Wednesday and I thought it was marvelous. I've never really connected to a character as much as I connected to Jordan, both the good and bad sides. It was weird like seeing yourself on stage. Everyone gives great performances. Shout out to Sas Goldberg who stole all her scenes. It truly was a great night in the theatre. I would recommend everyone to see it.

For those who have seen it both at the Pels and at the Booth, is the final moment the same? I remember some people thinking it was underwhelming off-Broadway.

Worth noting, 5 older patrons in my row, all who had discussed individually getting tickets via TDF, left at intermission in a hurry. To quote one of them, "This is lousy - terrible writing, why does everything always have to be gay and interracial?"

I would have expected TDF members, of any age, to be more enlightened.

FWIW, I was surrounded by older patrons at the Pels, and they loved the show. Most of them seemed to be straight couples.  I could see that they were deeply moved.  Clearly they connected with the universal theme of loneliness and the quest for love.

In case you guys aren't aware, there's a great rush deal for this show. The seats are front orchestra sides, including front row.

They were $37 not $35 like the article says.

Saw this at the Pels, and was surprisingly underwhelmed by it. Felt like one long cliche about being a 20-somenthing gay man, surrounded by a group of callow, selfish girlfriends. Went because of the subject matter and the mostly rave reviews. I love Barbara Barrie, so glad she is still active and amazing. but can't think of any other reason to see this again. Meh.

Asmith:

Yes, the ending is exactly the same and remains just as moving.

I liked this a lot, and found it very entertaining. I had a few quibbles here and there (I didn't care for the set) but I found the characters pretty relatable, and Harmon does a good job of avoiding a lot of obvious cliches. Gideon Glick's performance is excellent.

Is Barbara Barrie doing all performances? At some point during the Off Broadway run, she stopped doing matinees on two-show days. I don't begrudge her, but I also don't want to see the show without her.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Yes, AC126748, I would like to know too! I'm thinking of buying tickets for next Wednesday's matinee and am wondering if Ms. Barrie will play then. Haven't seen anything in print about this. I saw the show 4 times Off Broadway and only saw Ms. Barrie once. Her understudy was fine but I'm taking someone who wants to see Ms. Barrie. Any info would be appreciated!

Same. While I didn't necessarily find the girls callow, the show didn't give me any reasons to care about him or another "poor me, I'm almost 30 and I'm alone" story.

I was just listening to the Company OBC on vinyl and remembered that Barbara Barrie was the original Sarah. What an awesome role that is. I also marveled at how many members of that OBC have died, and here Barrie is still working. Bless her.

I'm always excited when a new play makes its way to Broadway. But, sometimes, I wonder how and why something has found its way there. I missed this off-Bway, although I wanted to give Joshua Harmon another chance after hating Bad Jews. I always want to give a playwright (being one myself), another opportunity as I hope they would give me. But, I and my companion almost left at intermission and were sorry we didn't.

I realize I am too old for this piece and probably always have been. I didn't relate on any level, but that's probably just me. Being 25 was very different for me, than what I see, nowadays. There is no plot, which would be okay as long as I cared what happened to the characters, but I just wanted them to stop complaining for five minutes. I felt trapped in a room with people I didn't like and I haven't felt so trapped since The Testament of Mary. We start and end in the same place. The ending is not revelatory in a way that led me to believe we had changed radically from where we started. My companion said "I didn't realize I hate people that much." I don't think that was the intention of the playwright.

I didn't care for the set or the lighting and was mystified by some members of the audience laughing uproariously at things that may have deserved a smile. It was noticeable and a little annoying.

I've seen most of the cast in other shows and I have liked them (especially Lindsay Mendez and Rebecca Naomi Jones), but this material didn't give them a chance to shine.

On a positive note, I love Barbara Barrie and while her small part was disposable and badly underwritten, I loved seeing her and was so happy that she is still working and entertaining us.

I really wanted to love this and was really looking forward to it, so my let-down is that much more palpable. I'm glad so many here seem to enjoy it and I hope it finds much success, as that's a good thing for the future of new plays on Broadway.

Left feeling mixed after seeing this Thursday night.

While unable to relate to the central characters, I appreciated the story Harmon was trying to tell.

Thought the script was very good in some places and very bad in others.

I had the same problem that a few others have mentioned regarding the grandmother character. It seemed forced and also thought it felt shoehorned into the story. It also does not move the action forward.

On the positive, Gideon Click is excellent. His performance deserves to be seen and remembered.

I saw this today and really enjoyed it, however I found it difficult to fully grasp the lead characters desperation for a true long lasting relationship at the age of 29.  I felt it would've carried more weight for me emotionally had the character been ten years older.  While I understand his feelings of not wanted to be left behind as his closest friends find their significant others, as a 52 old single gay man who came out late in life, I just had trouble accepting his desperation at such a young age.
