So according to a Hamilton fan account, Anthony Ramos took Hamilton out of his bio on Twitter and, when asked about it at the stage door, said that it's because him and Jasmine Cephas Jones are leaving the show sometime in August. Obviously it might not be true, but I would be really sad if it was.

Is this plausible, given that there's just a week left in August and no announcement to this effect has been made elsewhere?

"

I was thinking the same thing...but I guess the announcement for Daveed leaving came out only two days before he left, so who knows.

I know that people leave shows - when Lin left I actually played One Last Time and the lyrics "If I say goodbye, the nation learns to move on / It outlives me when I'm gone" seemed especially poignant. However, I'm seeing the show for the first time in a few months and might do the cancellation line in September so I would love to see Anthony and Jasmine in it. smiley

If anyone here caught tonight's show, I'd be very curious to hear what you thought about Javon's performance.

'Lafayette and Jefferson were played by Jevon McFerrin. Boy oh boy did he ruin those two characters. Now ruin is a hard word. Let's try Boy oh Boy did he not suit those characters. His accent for Lafayette went between a school yard French accent and Boris and Natasha from rocky and Bullwinkle( yeah Russian spys). And his Jefferson came off as a weird snivelling fool which feels more suited to the King...

I know I'm too picky. I should have let it all flow and enjoyed every second but I just couldn't get some of those thoughts out of my head and being let down in such a massive way by McFerrin just ruining that role in the show I saw made it feel like a bust.'

Thanks.  Well, that's concerning.  McFerrin is listed as the standby for the role.  Does that mean he is the de facto lead until they formally replace Daveed?  Or, are Stewart and Chapelle essentially functioning as the leads and McFerrin as an understudy to them?

"Sasha Hollinger is leaving soon, as she'll be playing Ursula in Sweet Charity (her replacement is a former dancer from On Your Feet)."

Sasha HUTCHINGS is in Sweet Charity.

Sasha Hollinger is Ariana's replacement, no?

Oh, yes, you're right there, neon! Hollinger (who is in Debose's "bullet" track) is staying put. Hutchings, the Peggy/Maria Reynolds cover, will be strutting her stuff in Sweet Charity.

I was wondering about the new Lafayette/Jefferson.  Daveed Diggs is such a character. His voice is unique, his hair and whole aesthetic are so identifiable. He's so charismatic.  Those are some very big shoes to fill.  I can't imagine anyone else in those roles.

Plenty of people have praised Andrew Chappelle and Seth Stewart in those roles. It is not a case of them not being able to find someone to fill Daveed's shoes.

If they are so wonderful n the role why haven't the producers given the role to either of them?

Daveed made a lasting impression in the show and apparently the casing agents and producers haven't found the right man for the role yet.

I've only seen Daveed in the role so I don't know about either of the guys you seem to thnk are every bit as good.

I have no insight into the casting of this show so therefore cannot say as to why they haven't chosen Andrew or Seth to be a full time replacement. Perhaps they have someone else lined up who is finishing up work on something else, perhaps it's another reason. They obviously believe both are good enough to cover the role for a number of months. I have also only seen Daveed but am going by the word of mouth that I have read. Most people seem to think both actors are performers worthy of the role. What I am saying is that I doubt the reason that the role hasn't been filled is that they can't find anyone good enough. Daveed is great but he's not a superhuman. There are plenty of people who can sing, dance, rap and act and have charisma. Daveed made no more of a lasting impression than any of the other principal cast members that left and have subsequently been replaced.

I've been fortunate enough to have seen all three in the role. Daveed was very good but I have to say I also liked Andrew almost as much. I dont understand why at this point they haven't just given him the role. I cant believe it has been over a month and the role is still in limbo.

Swings and understudies are very valuable as they cover multiple roles. Easier to replace one role, then to find one that can do multiple roles AND take the time to learn them.

As for Seth, I really loved his Jefferson, but not so much his Lafayette.

I see two possible scenarios: someone fell through or they are waiting for someone that has commitments to free up.

That being said,  I don't ever remember having a role go unfilled for such a long period of time before.

@dramamama, I was thinking the same thing myself re filling Lafayette/Jefferson.  I also agree that someone who covers multiple roles is quite valuable, and not easy to replace at the last minute. Who knows, maybe Andrew prefers being in that position.  I have a friend who covers people, and he enjoys that a lot.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Andrew in the role, and his Jefferson was fine but Lafayette left much to be desired (after, what, several months of covering - so not for the lack of practice). Regardless of the casting logistics, I wouldn't want to see someone who sounds near unintelligible and out of breath in the fastest rap parts and still lags behind the beat again.

It should also be said though that all performers have their detractors, including the OBC of Hamilton. Of course there are people that didn't like Seth or Andrew but on the whole they have definitely been well received. I'd say the only understudy/cover that has been consistently talked about as disappointing was Austin Smith in the role of Burr, although once again, I'm sure he has his fans too.

Gonna pipe in here.  I definitely did not like Alysha D (can't spell her last name. Sorry) who covered for Jasmine Cephas Jones the night I saw the show.  Once you've seen Jasmine in the role .... there's just no comparison. She has the loveliest voice.

This surprises me.  I've watched a few youtube videos of Alysha Deslorieux singing Satisfied and Burn and thought she was phenomenal.  Was hoping she would've been picked as the new Angelica.

Looks like Austin is leaving soon based  on Andrew chapelle's latest Instagram story.

I don't know how to link to those.

you can also hear BVD talking in the background about his screwup in nonstop tonight, which he also posted on his Instagram.

I did the cancellation line and got to see the matinee.

BVD as Burr is great. He is a lot more vulnerable. His voice wasn't as smooth but he had a bigger range and  optioned up a few times.  The end of Room Where It Happens was awesome.

Nicolas Christopher was on as Washington and he was phenomenal. I think I may have enjoyed his vocals more than Chris. His One Last Time was ridiculous. He matured the character a lot more than I remember Chris doing througout the second act.

Rory was hilarious, he's way more goofy than Jonathan.

Alysha was on as Angelica and she was great. She did the higher ending to Satisfied which was great.

I was not the biggest fan of Lexi Lawson. She was just just okay. Both vocals and acting, just okay. (personal pet peeve) I didn't like how she was the tallest sister. Alysha is quite short and it was a little weird having Angelica as the shortest.

Anthony Ramos looked bored. I think he leaving soon.

Andrew Chappelle was on as Jeff/Lafy and he was awesome. I liked Daveeds Layfeyette more but I like Andrew's Jefferson way more. He was so sassy and it was hilarious.

And of course Javier was wonderful, and so sweet at the stage door.

Overall the show is in great shape, and I can't wait to see the new cast in Chicago. Also, tonight was Sasha's last show.

Also, Question. Someone asked me if Hamilton's pace/rap speed intentionally slows as the shows winds down to show his age and maturity. Which I thought was a very interesting observation. What do you guys think?

That is a great observation. I think it's noticible that some of Hamilton's most passionate, dexterous raps occur in act two, such as the cabinet battles, but after The Reynolds Pamphlet, he seems to slow down and proceed with more caution.

Quick question: Has Sydney Harcourt returned to his original track as James Reynolds/Philip Schuyler, or is it still Roddy Kennedy?

I was at the evening performance and BVD is really great. I think in a couple more weeks he will be phenomenal. The range as nightnic001 also pointed out during Room Where It happens if he wanted to could blow the roof off the place. Voice flawless dancing has a way to go but again in a few more days.

I was disappointed that Chris Jackson was out but also as nightnic pointed out. Nicholas Christoper is very good as Washington. I'm sounding like a broken record with nightnic but during One Last Time it was like he was aging in front of you. Started with a hand tremble. Slower walk up to the front of the stage. It was like he was again as the song was continuing. Down to the tears running down his face at the end up it. Amazing.

Renee Elsie Goldsberry was on as Angelica and is still a force to recon with. Javier was great

Andrew Chappele as usual very good as Jefferson. I also have to agree Anthony Ramos seems a little off and possibly just having an off night. I hate to say so I will be brief. I never thought the role of Eliza would be so difficult to cast but I have to say we did not like Lexi Lawson.I am not a technical person but can one be sharp and flat in the same song? I do like what she does the foot of the stage at the end of the show but dont want to spoil for others.

Thanks for mentioning who was leaving as she was presented a beautiful array of yellow flowers.

Still a show I think will be a long time before I tire of seeing it.

Yes it is Sydney.
