It opened to across the board raves, including one that that stated " Imeda Staunton gives one of the finest performances I've ever seen in musical theatre". Too soon for this production to open on Broadway?
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Imelda Staunton is delivering a lifetime performance in Gypsy and her Mama Rose could be the best since Lansbury. Her performance in Sweeney was superb too, and the Staunton/Ball combo made seem probable a Broadway transfer of Jonathan Kent's production of ST, which unfortunately never happened for economical reasons.
Now, Imelda is one of the best actresses in musical theatre at the moment, but I don't think her name is big enough for Broadway - despite HP, Pride and being an Oscar nominated actress - especially for a show like Gypsy... Maybe, next Olivier Awards will push the London revival in the right direction for Broadway, Imelda's debut on the american stage has been long overdue!
Patti Lupone's gypsy is imprinted in everyone's minds over in the states. If the west-end gypsy came to Broadway we would get another Patti Lupone vs Elena Roger situation(perhaps not quite as bad). No offense to Imelda but while she has the acting chops, she can't belt it out like Lupone does. Not many can. Broadway audiences expect certain scores to sound the way they have listened to them for years. It would be an uphill battle for Imelda to win the hearts of Broadway audiences when Lupone is still fresh in their minds and hearts. Not worth it if you ask me.

i just got the recording last week and found the whole thing a delight. Can she belt it the same way as Patti? Of course not, very few can. But she has a good voice and from her vocal performance, I thought she had a good handle of the score and character. I've adored Imelda Staunton for many years (specifically from her performance as the Baker's Wife in the original London Gypsy) but thought she would never appear in a musical again. Of course to my joyful surprise she was a terrific Mrs Lovett and I think her Gypsy is one of my favorite recordings (it's my favorite musical and not every Rose is equal). Even the new orchestrations were refreshing to my ears (which know the original like I know my own mother). I would be pleased to see her play it on Broadway.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

People said Merman was too imprinted in people's minds for Lansbury's to be successful (Tony win). And then that those two were too imprinted in people's minds for Daly's to be successful (Tony win). And that Peters' production had been done too soon for there to be much interest in Lupone's production (Tony win).
I would rather we not have another production of Gypsy for another 10-20 years. Not because I found Lupone's production so great, because I really didn't, but simply because I need more time to just desire to see it again. There are so many other classic musicals I'd love to see revived, but Staunton is one of the few actresses today who could make me excited to see it again (Toni Collette and Tonya Pinkins are two others, since everyone is interested). Bring her on!
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.
American audiences know her as the mean pink lady from HP. That's about it. She definitely should make her Broadway debut soon, she's very talented. I just don't think Gypsy is the best route to do that.

Gypsy on the West End made sense because it's not overdone (at least as overdone) there. Another Gypsy on Broadway...
Maybe she can do the movie version (although it'll require an active imagination to see her as the mother of two young girls on camera). She might win an Oscar. Patti can present it.

The Over Top and really unnecessary over acting of Patti Lupone. But I heard on this forum Imelda does not want to be away from family. But correct me if I am wrong.
As probably one of the worst trolls this site has ever had, Bilbo3 - you're hardly one to comment on anything someone says. You might be back here with a new "I'm a nice guy now please love me and forget everything I've done to people here in the past" screen name, but we all know that you're a despicable human being and your sad attempt to be accepted here with a new user name is even more pathetic than you are.

Bilbo3 You just wrote that most Americans have no idea who Imelda is?
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
